If you ever feel like you're being watched while you try on clothes in the department store dressing room, well, maybe you are. A CBS2 undercover op reveals that the doors of several area department stores are deliberately designed so that store employees can see in. Oh, but don't worry, it's not because they're pervy, it's because they think you're a thief.
Sure, Department Store Staff Can See Into Your Dressing Room. They Aren't Pervs, They Just Think You're a Thief.
Wearing White: Betty White's Clothing Line Debuts Next Month
What can't Betty White do? The last Golden Girl standing is still going strong at 88. She's following up a record-setting appearance on SNL with a new series, and now she's "launching her own line of T-shirts and hoodies that will hit stores in August," says WWD. White is working with Van Nuys-based Jerry Leigh apparel to produce a line of t-shirts and hoodies that boast her image in a variety of artistic renderings. Forget White's senior citizenship--the hoodies are as plugged-in as you can get. They "feature washable earbuds and a jack to plug into iPods and MP3 players." A portion of the sales will benefit White's pet cause, the Morris Animal Foundation.

Your Favorite American Apparel T-Shirt Was Possibly Stitched by an Undocumented Worker
While it might not be surprising that American Apparel has made the headlines once again for their business practices, it is a touch ironic that the company who is behind the "Legalize L.A." movement for immigration reform revealed today "that the government has found that 1,800 of its employees are either illegally working in the U.S. or potentially illegal to work," according to USA Today.

2K by Gingham: Artist-Driven T-Shirts
Los Angeles blazes the trail when it comes to the t-shirt. The lightweight garment wears ideally for our SoCal weather, and it’s casual versatility is locked in a cultural groove. We’re home to the $1,850 t-shirt, numerous eye-sore trendy brands, and a slew of feaux-vintage, nearly-ironic t’s whose wearer looks the butt of a silent joke. Thankfully those aren’t our only options.
The Hunt For LA’s Most Expensive T-Shirt
I recall a point early in the Bush Administration where I overheard an in-the-know friend dub Los Angeles “home of the $1,000 t-shirt.” I then heard it a few more times. It made me curious. But not curious enough to seek the pinnacle of casual couture. If a four-digit price-tag could be found attached to a t-shirt, I thought it best be discovered by someone else.
LAist Goes Shopping: '&Still' -- Early '90s Sportswear Emporium
Jeremy Shapiro wanted to open a store that specialized in the bright, fun sportswear that was the rage when he was in high school. Last May the Los Angeles native opened &Still Clothing (And Still.) “I was wearing all of this,” said Shapiro of the 1990-1994 gear which illuminated his high school years in New Jersey. “All of it.”
Mr. Blackwell, 86, Fashion Critic to the Worst Dressed
Mr. Blackwell, the Los Angeles fashion critic and designer known for his annual list of the worst dressed celebrities, died Sunday at age 86 from an intestinal infection. In early August, Blackwell was reportedly unconscious in an undisclosed Los Angeles-area hospital.
Yes I am the Muffin Man
Today we will look at one of my least favorite fashion occurrences. This has been going on for far too long, and I have lost the self-control to tolerate it. As with all moronic fashion trends, for months I patiently photographed the idiocy and awaited its disappearance. The problem we face today is that the Sausage Mc Muffins simply are not going away. So I must ask you Los Angeles: how can we eliminate...
Gap Launches Expensive Designer White Shirts
For the past several seasons The Gap has been in a serious creative rut with completely lackluster clothes and equally dull ad campaigns, but the company aims to change all that with today's introduction of a limited edition collection for women designed by three hot, up-and-coming fashion designers. Following in the footsteps of mass-market clothing retailers H&M, Topshop and Target, all of whom have commissioned high-end designers to create limited edition clothing lines, The...
Kate Moss Debuts Topshop Line. LAist Asks: Why Does Topshop Hate America?
Whether you're sneaking out of rehab, snorting coke off a Noguchi coffee table or just lounging around looking sexily tousled while smoking a post-shag fag with your heroin-addicted rocker boyfriend, Kate Moss has designed the quintessential clothing line for the glamorously emaciated rocker chick within us all. It makes perfect sense. Models wear clothes. Why shouldn’t they also design them? Seriously, with all the celebrities designing eponymous fashion lines (read: famous people approving or...

Proenza Schouler Doesn't Quite Make it to Target
Today was the big unveiling of Proenza Schouler's "resort wear" collection for Target. It was exalted. It was hyped. It was drooled over. (I plead guilty to all of the above). But an early morning trip to the Target at the corner of La Cienega and Rodeo yielded nothing. Not as in "nothing good left cuz the racks were already picked clean" but as in "where the fuck are these clothes?" That's right. Absolutely nothing...
LAist Lands Exclusive Interview with H&M PR-Bot 2000
Offering low-cost clothing to slim-hipped wastrels isn't easy, and Swedish clothing chain H&M strives to stay on the cutting-edge of cutting costs. Competing in a cutthroat global marketplace, the company has found that budgetary consciousness doesn't only apply to the factory floor, it can extend to the highest reaches of the corporate machine thanks to the advances of the computer age. To that end H&M is the first major retailer to deploy the PR-Bot...
Style Mavens Flock to H&M Pasadena Opening
Lines stretched around the block. Helicopters buzzed overhead. It was madness today at the grand opening of the Pasadena H&M, the first H&M retail outlet in Southern California. Tucked between the Tiffany and Apple stores on Colorado Boulevard, the warehouse-like space showcases on two floors H&M's womenswear line. Sorry gents, ladies only. You'll have to wait until the Oct. 26 opening of the Beverly Center H&M. Half an hour before the official noon opening...
