According to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports, the Clippers have agreed to trade guard Baron Davis and a first-round draft pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Mo Williams and Jamario Moon. The first-round draft pick is for this year's draft and is not lottery protected according to Spears.
Cleveland Gets a Beard
LAst Night's Action: Kings Continue To Make Road Kill
LA Kings defeat Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 (SO). Sitting at STAPLES Center night after night during their awful January homestand, it was hard to imagine the Kings getting their act together. Their blue line was awful and their offense went MIA in spurts.
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Created History Against Cavs
LA Lakers defeat Cleveland Cavaliers 112-57. I guess that LeBron James fellow makes a difference. With the Cavaliers having gone 7-2 against the Lakers in their past nine games, without James that streak was definitely not going to continue.
LAst Night's Action: Lakers-Suns Preview Edition
LAKERS-SUNS PREVIEW. The last time the Lakers faced the Phoenix Suns in a playoff series, Kobe Bryant famously proclaimed that he would rather play on Pluto rather than return to the Lakers in the aftermath. It’s amazing the difference that three years makes. Kwame Brown was jettisoned off for Pau Gasol and one ring later they are looking to make it to the NBA Finals for the third consecutive year.
The Suns also went through a bit of transition. Once the Gasol trade happened, they responded by trading for Shaquille O’Neal. Head coach Mike D’Antoni was jettisoned in favor of Terry Porter which ended up being a disaster.
Lakers Nation Needs a Chill Pill
Some Lakers fans have lost their damned minds.
Listening to ESPN Radio 710 AM, whose local broadcasters seem to only talk about Lakers non-stop, some callers actually think the Lakers are better without Kobe Bryant. Now I might have contributed to this nonsense on Saturday when at Portland, a place where the Lakers hadn’t won since February 23, 2005, I tweeted, “So I think Kobe was the reason the #lakers haven’t won in Portland for so lonng.”
Better Watch What You Wish For
I still say the Lakers will defeat the Denver Nuggets in six games. But it's not this series that I'm finding all that compelling.
Out in the east, we are witnessing an Orlando Magic team that is tearing apart the Cleveland Cavaliers. Aside from the Magic's 10-point victory in game three, all games have been close: one point margins in games one and two and a two point victory by the Magic in game four.
LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Work the Brooms
LA Dodgers defeat New York Mets 2-1. Neither the Mets nor the Dodgers did anything offensively, but Russell Martin did just enough to drive in the winning run in the eighth inning. The Mets went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position while the Dodgers went 1-for-9, that one on Russell Martin's single in the bottom of the eighth that scored Orlando Hudson from second base. Livan Hernandez pitched seven innings giving up only one run in the first inning for the Mets. Jeff Weaver pitched five innings giving up one run on four hits and two walks. Ronald Belisario came in to pitch in the top of the eighth and gave up two walks and a David Wright fly ball to center field that advanced the runners to second and third. Brent Leach came in and induced two weak grounders that kept the runners from scoring. With the Dodgers scoring in the bottom of that frame it gave him the win. Jonathan Broxton came in and got his 11th save out of 13 chances. The Dodgers have the day off Thursday.
LAst Night's Action: Clippers Almost Giant Killers
Cleveland Cavaliers defeat LA Clippers 87-83. If the game ended after three quarters, the Clippers would have gotten their biggest upset of the season. After all the Boston Celtics were a little road fatigued and injured when the met in the Staples Center several weeks ago. The Clippers had held the Cavs to under 20 points in each of the three quarters and had a 19 point lead. But the fourth quarter happened, and just like that the Cavs turned it on. LeBron James notched his second straight triple-double with 32 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists. However the Cavs were only 3-for-20 behind the three point line with all three coming as they were rallying in the fourth quarter. Questionable shots by the Clippers didn't help things any especially Zach Randolph's airball from three-point land with four seconds left in regulation when down by only two points. This game was marked by the Loch Ness-esque appearance by Chris Kaman. I could have sworn he didn't really exist.
Lakers Will Be All Right
This was another statement game for the Lakers, and the Lakers answered.
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Beat the LeBrons
LA Lakers defeat Cleveland Cavaliers 105-88. I'll have more on this game later today, but the Lakers prove they are a tough team.
LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Fizzle
LA Angels defeat LA Dodgers 10-2. Derek Lowe started on three days rest due to Brad Penny getting an extra day off due to a sore forearm. Usually Lowe is good on three days rest, but I guess he wilted in the heat. Lowe gave up seven runs and ten hits in five innings, and the Dodgers bullpen didn't do much to stop the bleeding either. The Angels had been struggling offensively up to this point. Jered Weaver meanwhile looked unhittable until the fourth inning when he gave up an infield single to Juan Pierre which he couldn't catch up to. He got irritated then gave up two runs. But he regained his form in the fifth inning allowing the Angels to coast from that point on. Yet again the Dodgers lose the freeway series at Angel Stadium.
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Look Unbeatable
LA Lakers over Utah Jazz 120-110. The same script from game one followed in game two. The Lakers pulled away from the Jazz in the second quarter, but the Jazz made it close with five minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Lakers woke up and snatched the win convincingly in the final minutes. The biggest difference was in this game Kobe Bryant received his MVP trophy before the game and played like he needed to prove he deserved the award. Kobe led all scorers with 38 points but also notched eight rebounds and six assists. Before we get too excited remember a playoff series doesn't start until the visiting team beats the home team. The Lakers will try to step on the throats of the Jazz on Friday night.
Let The Debauchery Begin
If Los Angeles seems a little light on groupies this weekend, don’t be shocked. It’s just that the NBA’s All-Star game, which is the brightest light of the year to the groupie moths, is just a one-hour plane ride away in Las Vegas.
iParty shuffle
The sun is back out which means that new parties are on the horizon. Few tonight, mind, but we promise to get back in the know on where all the cool kids are kicking back drinks and silently judging you from starting tomorrow with a possible chance to hang out with NBA phenom LeBron James after the Cleveland Cavaliers battle your Los Angeles Lakers.
