Drop Me In The Water: Photos From L.A. River Clean-Up Day
Friends of the Los Angeles River, with support from an estimated 5000 volunteers, and in conjunction with the Mayor's Day of Service, got down to the business of nature on Saturday for the 22nd Annual L.A. River Clean-Up. From 9:00 a.m. until noon, crews helped with beautification and revitalization efforts in 14 locations with 25 tons of garbage "projected to have been pulled out of the river," reports KTLA.
The L.A. River Wild: Annual Clean-Up Day is Tomorrow
At times, the LA River can look more like a dump than a storied waterway, due largely to the litter that amasses in it. Fortunately, an effort is underway to help beautify and revitalize the river. Tomorrow from 9am to noon, Friends of the Los Angeles River, along with support from Mayor Villaraigosa, will host the annual River Clean-Up day, and the public is welcome to sign up and participate.
Sardine Clean Up Goes Into Day 3, Volunteers Needed
Things are still a little fishy in Redondo Beach's King Harbor, as the great dead sardine clean up goes into its third day. "The work was about half way done Wednesday with an estimated 35 tons of fish scooped up from the surface," reports the Daily News. Authorities estimate about 95% of the fish on the surface have been removed.
Volunteers Cleaning Up DTLA's Historic Broadway Core Today
This morning about 100 volunteers and city workers are taking part in a 4-hour community clean-up on Broadway between 2nd Street and Olympic Blvd. The effort is backed by Councilman Jose Huizar as part of his Bringing Back Broadway initiative, which focuses on revitalizing Downtown's Historic Broadway Core.

$62 Million of Stimulus Money Goes to California for Environmental Cleanup
The White House today announced $6 billion in new funding nationwide to accelerate environmental cleanup work. The money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is supposed to create thousands of jobs across 12 states including California, which will receive $62 million.
