Two weeks ago, photographer/director Dave Naz (MySpace) celebrated the release of his new Vivid-Alt (MySpace) movie Circa '82, his second directorial effort for the imprint, with a party at the Hyperion Tavern in Silver Lake. Circa '82 revives "...the early 80's and focus[es] on the important things in life: sex, music, and doing whatever the fuck they want. No parents, no school, no rules." The movie features cameo "...appearances by punk legends Keith Morris......

Liquid Kitty's annual punk rock BBQs have been such a success, this Sunday they are hosting a special Winter BBQ. What better to chase away the rain than with colorful drinks and hard-core thrash? Some dogs on the grill? Done! And all for the low, low, price of FREE. Liquid Kitty's BBQs are famous for reuniting long-lost 80s classics and this one is no exception. This year is marked by the return of old-school locals,......

You Me and Iowa Things are starting to get back to normal here, after the holidays -- it's a great night in music for Los Angeles. For one, two major arts institutions are hosting some excellent concerts tonight. At the Natural History Museum's popular music and discussion series, First Fridays, Dr. Antonio Damasio, M.D., Ph.D. (Director of Brain and Creativity Institute, USC) will cover how the brain processes memory, language, emotions and decisions. And......

I love Gavin Edward's series of misheard lyrics, informally known as mondegreens. Especially since I am constantly singing the wrong lyrics to songs, including the commonly misheard "wrapped up like a douche" (Manfred Mann's "revved up like a deuce.") I am driven to hysterical laughter by Gavin Edward gems like: "My mind is bacon, but my body's Sizzlean." (Misheard lyric) Foreigner, Hot Blooded (Song) My mind is racin' but my body's in the lead......

On a Thursday night in Los Feliz, the dudes who throw on the Fuck Yeah Fest set aside an hour to sit on a stoop and have a lengthy, convoluted conversation with me. Despite the perpetual interruptions and digression, I arrived at a very straightforward conclusion. Keith Morris (of Black Flag, The Circle Jerks, and Midget Handjob) and Sean Carlson are two friends who are real characters. They hate doing interviews, they love ice......

Deerhunter will be there too! This year Keith and Sean outdo themselves big time with the 4th Annual Fuck Yeah! Fest, and the banging roster they've built. It's a two day show ($13/day or $24 for both days) that spreads itself over five age friendly venues in Echo Park. There's gonna be art, comedians, and over 50 bands. and i mean they'll have a little of everything from grat bands such as Whispertown 2000......

We've said it before... the kids today get Everything. Now they're getting VIPed for doing what skateboarders, GG Allin, and Andrew WK have been doing for years - bleeding! In our day we would have done ANYTHING to get VIP access to a sweet music festival and now the Vans Warped Tour is teaming up with Music Saves Lives to encourage the youth of America to give blood and save lives in exchange for......

The M+M's are definitely Britney and her girls, y'all, but don't blink because they gave San Diego 14 minutes Tuesday and trimmed it down to 12 minutes last night in Downtown Disney, so if you're in the beer line and hear familiar music you should probably, um, get out of line because before you can say hey-shes-lipsynching-while-chewing-gum the show will be over The M+M's (Britney Spears) @ House of Blues Velvet Revolver @ Avalon......

Have a beer with Fear! Slam at the Cuckoo’s Nest! Grab an Oki Dog with Pat Smear! Thursday night at 7:30 pm., The Silver Lake Film Festival will be screening Dave Markey’s seminal punk rock film, The Slog Movie. The Slog movie isn’t an outsider’s documentary of punk rock as a movement. It isn’t a bunch of grainy, archived clips edited into interviews with punk rock legends reminiscing about the Masque. When you are......

Starting this Thursday May 3rd, our little bohemian neighborhood that could, Silver Lake, will be holding its nine day long, 7th annual Silver Lake Film Festival, complete with indie movies, indie music, and even indie darling Parker Posey accepting the “Spirit of Silver Lake” award. Right in the shadow of the bright lights, doctored scripts and smarmy agents of Hollywood, SLFF, dares the big studios to F with them. 2007’s SLFF kicks off tomorrow......

Grindhouse There probably isn’t a single night I wouldn't enjoy going to the Quentin Tarantino-curated Grindhouse Festival at the New Beverly. On Monday & Tuesday it’s a double bill of Rolling Thunder, a revenge flick about a Vietnam vet who goes on the warpath after his wife and son are killed by thugs, and The Town That Dreaded Sundown, a 1977 film that's set in 1946 about a hooded killer stalking the terrified residents of......

For a new LAist first, tonight is the first time we've suggested an event involving nudity. It is summer, after all, so hedonism is allowed. Get an eyeful of the Suicide Girls Burlesque at the Knitting Factory Main Lounge. The array of pierced, dyed and tattooed girls will be performing with Sound of the Struggle, Something for Rockets and DJ Keith Morris (of the Circle Jerks). The show starts at 9:00 PM and tickets......
