There were two major controversies surrounding yesterday's Bruin win over Cal. 1. With 7.1 seconds left to go, Cal's Ryan Anderson turned the ball over under full-court pressure from UCLA's Russell Westbrook and Josh Shipp. No foul call. Cal fans claim that a foul should have been called because Westbrook apparently pushed Anderson to the floor, and on top of that he "hacked him in a downward motion" to get at the ball as ESPN's......

I don't usually do a pre-write for a game, but since I won't be writing about the game tonight I just needed to put in my two cents. Nomar is sent to the DL with a strained left calf which means today is the start of the Shea Hillenbrand era. Excuse me if my optimism has died like my faith in the Democrats. To further muddle things, Grady inexplicably has put Juan Pierre back......

Marlins 6, Dodgers 5 - The Dodgers could only briefly enjoy their five run inning. After erasing a 3-0 deficit with two out in the fifth, the Blue Crew eventually turned into the Blew Crew. Takashi Saito botched just his second save of the year, and Florida scored the winning run in the top of the 10th. The Dodgers loaded 'em up in the bottom half of the frame, but couldn't get anybody home. Yankees......

Dodgers 5, Cardinals 4 - Much as LAist would like to praise the Dodgers and Wilson Betemit's pinch hit three run homer, we're a little skeptical of any win that comes against Kip Wells. Who? Since the 1995 season this journeyman pitcher has earned one win for each of three different teams. That's not overwhelming. What is? His league leading eight losses and 39 earned runs this season. He lasted five innings against Los Angeles,......

This summer could be a bummer for LA's biggest celebrity. Paris Hilton pleaded no contest (guilty) to alcohol-related reckless driving in September and she got probation. In late February she got caught speeding down Sunset Blvd. with her lights off. It was the second time she had been stopped while driving with a suspended license. Violating such a probation as the one she agreed to was served could amount to 45 days in the......

Trailblazers 112, Lakers 108 - When your best player wins the All Star MVP award and a guy from the bench scores 23, things should be clicking. Instead, the Lakers lost their sixth in a row. This is the longest loosing streak in Phil Jackson's career. When he joined the Lakers in 1999 there was a distant memory of a five game loosing streak with the Bulls. He added another five game streak last season.......

Bruins 69, Ducks 57 - UCLA hoops grabbed sole possession of first place in the Pac 10 as the conference's top two teams faced off at Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins dominated immediately after the opening tipoff to avenge an earlier loss to Oregon which knocked them out of the nation's #1 ranking. The were also eager to put their last game -- a loss at Stanford -- behind them. They did so in convincing fashion......

LiLo, Brit, and Paris, move over. There's a new game in town. In a stunning announcement, soccer star David Beckham has agreed to a 5 year, reportedly $250 million deal to sign with the LA Galaxy, effective once his contract with Real Madrid expires at the end of the Primera Liga season in June. The move is not entirely unexpected, given Beckham's loss of standing with both the English national team and with Real.......

Lakers 112, Rockets 101 - With the Rockets up by 21 points at halftime, it took a determined Lakers two extra periods to walk away with a victory. Kobe scored almost half of the team's points with 53. Yaozah! Looks like Houston forgot to read LAist. Trailblazers 109, Clippers 99 - The Clippers continue to stink on the road. Despite the return of two injured starters (Sam Cassell and Corey Maggette), they fell to......

Predators 4, Kings 1 - After getting roughed up by the Ducks a couple days ago, Nashville headed up the freeway to take out their aggression on the Los Angeles Kings. The Predators scored three power play goals and added one short-handed. They pulled away in a second period marred by five minor penalties on the Kings, two of which were converted. The Kings are just two points out of last place in the......

The stars are just like us! They marry Baywatch babes off the beach of Saint-Tropez, ABC News reports. Anderson wrote about her upcoming nuptuals with Kid Rock on her blog today: Yes. I'm finally getting remarried...it's been a whirlwind... spontaneous but well thought through. Feels like I've been stuck in a time warp. Not able to let go of MY family picture...it's been sad and lonely and frustrating....I've raised my kids alone in hope......

LAist would like to admit we were wrong: Tonight, we taped Lost and ended up watching the finale of American Idol -- all two hours and three minutes of it. We got sucked in during the first hour and needed to watch the show to to its cheesy, glorious conclusion with Katharine McPhee and Taylor Hicks singing "I've Had the Time of My Life" from Dirty Dancing. Oh yes, and then Taylor being crowned......
