Got motivation, kids? The Chivas USA pro soccer team and the Orange County Gang Reduction and Intervention Partnership (GRIP) are hoping the promise of free tickets to see a game is enough to keep a few school-aged kids out of ganglife.

How Do You Solve a Problem Like UCLA?
It really is a shame. The Rose Bowl is a gorgeous place to catch a football game. Set in amongst the hills in Pasadena, knowing the history of the stadium, it is breathtaking.
LAst Night's Action: Trojans Have Another Cardiac Win
Against a more formidable opponent than the Golden Gophers of Minnesota, it looked to be more of the same for the Trojans: the Trojans should have had a commanding lead in the fourth quarter only to be denied by their own hubris.
LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Sweep Birds, Angels Sweep Chi Sox
LA Dodgers defeat St. Louis Cardinals 9-4. “Where the hell was all of the run support earlier in the season you assholes?!” If I were Dodgers’ starter Hiroki Kuroda, that’s exactly what I would say to every position player. But of course Kuroda is a much nicer person than I, so I’m sure he’s just happy to be able to exhale a bit on the mound. Well as much as one can relax in the middle of the St. Louis 97-degree-plus-humidity weather summer day without melting one’s cleats.
LAst Night's Action: Prom Queens Galore Between Angels and Tigers
It would have been nice to be able to discuss what a great pitching duel it was with Tigers’ starter Justin Verlander four outs away from a no-hitter. Unfortunately the actions of a few detracted from it all.
Lilly's and Furcal's Bats Power Dodgers' Victory
On a night when the Dodgers celebrated Don Drysdale’s 75th birthday, it was the offense that bailed out the Dodgers in their 7-6 victory over the Washington Nationals. Specifically it was the struggling Rafael Furcal who bailed the Dodgers out.
LAst Night's Action: At Least Chivas USA Won
New York Mets defeat LA Dodgers 5-3. If you have nothing good to say, don’t say anything at all. To quote manager Don Mattingly after the game, “We have to keep going, and we have to play in a way that tells ourselves that we are going somewhere. That’s what we have to do.” The Dodgers are 9-18 in their last 27 games dating exactly one month.
Chivas USA and Corona Sitting in a Tree
The dreaded word fans hate to hear: rebuilding.
It has a tone of resignation and grasping at straws, a built-in excuse for having a poor product. But there it was as Chivas USA announced their new multi-year sponsorship deal with Corona, the first time Corona has sponsored a team in the United States.
Rebuilding the team. Rebuilding the jerseys which were unveiled at The Standard Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles Wednesday night.

Chivas USA Season Ends on Sour Note
Chivas USA looked to end their disappointing season on a positive note last night as they took on the Chicago Fire, but despite a strong start, the 14,825 fans that had made their way to the Home Depot Center went home disappointed following a 4 - 1 loss.
LAst Night's Action: Kings Trick Hats in Colorado
LA Kings defeat Colorado Avalanche 6-4. Coming into the game the Kings had only scored one power-play goal. Brad Richardson got his first career hat-trick with goals 4:58 in the second period, a short-handed goal 13:04 in the third and 17:05 in the third. Wayne Simmonds was given a five-minute major penalty and a ten-minute game misconduct 8:40 in the third period for butt-ending TJ Galiardi. Strange, strange game, but the Kings got the win.
LAst Night's Action: Kings Get Sloppy Win against 'Canes
LA Kings defeat Carolina Hurricanes 4-3. With Head Coach Terry Murray deciding to save goalie Jonathan Quick for division foe Phoenix Coyotes Thursday night, a shaky Jonathan Bernier had a tough go of it for the first two periods having not played since Oct. 10, 2010 in Calgary in a 3-1 loss. Thankfully he loosened up in the third period and the offense bailed him out for the 4-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.
LAst Night's Action: Kings Offense Back on Track
LA Kings defeat Vancouver Canucks 4-1. Kings’ head coach Terry Murray kept the same lines from Tuesday night’s game against the Atlanta Thrashers. Although they didn’t get as many scoring opportunities, the Kings made the most of it in their 4-1 win over the Canucks.
LAst Night's Action: USC Sunk By Field Goal Again
#16 Stanford Cardinal defeat USC Trojans 37-35. The second verse was the same as the first. After being unable to stop the Washington Huskies from traveling down the field for a game winning field goal, USC do the same thing again as Andrew Luck and the Stanford offense marched down the field for the game winning 30-yard field goal.
LAst Night's Action: Angels, Dodgers End Seasons on Winning Note

LAst Night's Action: Angels, Dodgers Make for a Happy LA
LA Angels defeat Tampa Bay Rays 6-3. The Angels’ light weight hitters have now come through twice in their three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. After Brandon Wood hit the game-winning homer in the ninth inning Friday night, Peter Bourjos, whose batting average is also below the Mendoza line...
Chivas USA Fighting Until the End
A minimum of nine points (and some favorable results) continue to separate Chivas USA from this year’s MLS playoffs, and with 7 games left in the season, it is still mathematically possible for the red-and-white to qualify.
LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Take a Break from Losing
LA Dodgers defeat Houston Astros 4-2 (11 innings). After making a great catch then missing a great catch in left field in the bottom of the tenth, Jay Gibbons belted a two-run homer to give the Dodgers the uncharacteristic victory. Lost in this long and droning game thanks to all the pitching changes were Dodger starter Hiroki Kuroda’s six innings of one-run work which included getting out a bases loaded jam in the fifth inning. Kuroda actually left the game in line to win, but after Ronald Belisario gave up a one-out double to Brett Wallace in the seventh inning George Sherrill gave up an RBI single to Michael Bourn to tie the game until the fateful 11th.
Galaxy Rescue Point, Chivas USA's Hopes Fading
Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez was the team’s savior yesterday as he headed home the tying goal at the 91st minute to salvage a point while on the road at Chicago. Meanwhile, Chivas USA was not quite as lucky in their road trip, dropping a 3 - 0 decision to the Rapids at Commerce City, Colorado.

Soccer and Change Go Hand-in-Hand in Compton
If the recent World Cup taught us anything (besides the fact that bad refereeing can really sour a tournament), it is that soccer has a special way of connecting and impacting people, usually in ways that are difficult to mimic through other activities. This is true even in a city without any soccer fields, such as Compton. Despite this challenge, however, the beautiful game has quickly become a powerful vehicle for change within the city.
Red-and-White Clobber Columbus Crew
Chivas USA forward Justin Braun continues to do everything he can to live up to his unofficial nickname of Braunaldinho, and last night’s match against the visiting Columbus Crew was no exception. Along with scoring his 7th goal of the year at the 37th minute, Braunaldinho also setup a near miss and had one of his own that would have been a worthy candidate for Goal of the Week as Chivas USA defeated the Crew by a score of 3 - 1 at the Home Depot Center.
Chivas USA Face Tough Challenge Tonight
Chivas USA will take the field tonight at the Home Depot Center with one thing in mind: continue to improve.
LAst Night's Action: Rangers Too Hot for Angels

The Angels came back in the fifth inning when Maicer Izturis hit a double off of Cliff Lee (W, 9-4) that bounced off the end of left fielder Josh Hamilton’s glove to center fielder Julio Borbon that scored Hideki Matsui. The Rangers pulled back ahead in the sixth inning with an RBI double by Hamilton and a sacrifice fly by Bengie Molina. Mike Napoli got the Angels to within a run with a solo shot off of Lee in the seventh, however that would be the closest they would get. Lee ended up pitching into the ninth inning with closer Neftali Feliz getting the final two outs and his 26th save of the season.
