It really is a shame. The Rose Bowl is a gorgeous place to catch a football game. Set in amongst the hills in Pasadena, knowing the history of the stadium, it is breathtaking.

LAst Night's Action: Chris Paul and Hornets Sting Lakers in Game 1
Normally a Laker loss in the playoffs isn’t cause for concern, but losing Game 1 to a seven-seed? Maybe a little alarming. The last time the Lakers lost Game 1 at home was on May 4, 2009 when the Houston Rockets beat the Lakers 100-92 in the Western Conference Semifinals. It was a tough series filled with a lot of Aaron Brooks and Luis Scola, but the Lakers eventually prevailed in Game 7 en route to the first of the repeat championships.
Chivas USA Season Ends on Sour Note
Chivas USA looked to end their disappointing season on a positive note last night as they took on the Chicago Fire, but despite a strong start, the 14,825 fans that had made their way to the Home Depot Center went home disappointed following a 4 - 1 loss.
LAst Night's Action: Kings Trick Hats in Colorado
LA Kings defeat Colorado Avalanche 6-4. Coming into the game the Kings had only scored one power-play goal. The Kings got two against the Avs by first-liners Anze Kopitar 11:15 in the first period and Dustin Brown 17:15 in the second period. Brad Richardson got his first career hat-trick with goals 4:58 in the second period, a short-handed goal 13:04 in the third and 17:05 in the third. Wayne Simmonds was given a five-minute major penalty and a ten-minute game misconduct 8:40 in the third period for butt-ending TJ Galiardi. Strange, strange game, but the Kings got the win.
Edson Buddle Destroys Philadelphia, Chivas USA Rally For a Point
Galaxy forward Edson Buddle spearheaded a 3 - 1 thrashing of the Philadelphia Union last night at the Home Depot Center, keeping the blue-and-gold undefeated on the year.
LAst Night's Action: Angels Blow One in Detroit
Detroit Tigers defeat LA Angels 3-2. Scott Kazmir started out shaky getting the bases loaded with one out in the first inning. However he held it together allowing only one run to score. The Angels tied things up in a strange fourth inning. Howie Kendrick hit a one-out single off of Jeremy Bonderman and advanced to second on a missed catch error by first baseman Miguel Cabrera on a pickoff attempt during Bobby Abreu’s at-bat. Abreu then hit a fly ball that while tailing away from right fielder Ryan Raburn slightly went in and out of his glove allowing Kendrick to advance only to third base. Raburn threw the ball to Cabrera who once again could not catch the ball allowing it to dribble back to the pitching mound. Kendrick went through third base coach Dino Ebel’s stop sign and scored to tie the game. The three errors in the one at-bat vaulted the Tigers past the Dodgers, Braves and Marlins to the top of the blooper-prone list in the Majors. The game was tied 2-2 in the bottom of ninth when with one out and Scot Shields pitching for the Angels, Johnny Damon took a fastball to right field walking off with the game.
Tough Loss for Chivas USA
Karma has a funny way of rearing its head at the most inopportune time. Thursday night, as 20,739 fans readied themselves to celebrate a great victory by Chivas USA over the Chicago Fire in a tough, physical match, karma intervened, putting the party on hold and handing the Fire a 3 - 2 victory.
LAst Night's Action: Dodgers in Another Nail Biter
LA Dodgers defeat Chicago Cubs 2-1. Who knew Randy Wolf would give the Dodgers such great performances? Wolf took to the Friendly Confines going seven-plus innings giving up one run on six hits and a walk with seven strike outs. The only run he gave up was the first batter of the eighth inning Bobby Scales hitting a pinch hit homer to stir the Wrigley crowd. Ramon Troncoso didn't make things easy practically refusing to throw a strike. In both the eighth and ninth innings the tying runs were in scoring position, but Troncoso managed to get out of the jam both times. Juan Pierre went 2-for-4 with a stolen base which is good for me since I signed him as a free agent on my fantasy team.
One Last Time for Blanco
The Chicago Fire arrived at LAX earlier this week ahead of their Thursday night match against Chivas USA and were greeted by several Mexican soccer fans hoping to get an autograph or picture of long time Club America icon and Fire standout Cuauhtemoc Blanco.
Blanco is making what will likely be his only and final visit to L.A. as a member of the Fire this year, having stated earlier in the year that he would not be rejoining the team next year. His career with the Mexican National Team seems to have been given a second chance by new Head Coach Javier Aguirre and after Thursday's match, Blanco will join his compatriots as they prepare for their World Cup Qualifying match against El Salvador on June 6th.
LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Lose Yet Win
San Diego Padres defeat LA Dodgers 7-5. Yeah the Dodgers lost, but as Vin Scully so eloquently put it, "Who cares?" The Dodgers found out at 2:32 pm that they were NL West Champs. They went through warm ups, batting practice and the game, then the celebration began. Now this is the first celebration I have seen where the players took to the fans. Russell Martin and Manny Ramirez were among the players spraying fans with champagne and beer. Next for the Dodgers is the final series of the season at San Francsico. As for the postseason, the Dodgers could face either the New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies or Chicago Cubs in the first round.
LAst Night's Action
LA Dodgers defeat Colorado Rockies 3-1. The final game of their successful 10-game homestand ended with a well pitched game between Derek Lowe and the Rockie's Jorge de la Rosa. Lowe just gave up the one run in the first inning and went on to pitch 6 1/3 innings giving up four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. Meanwhile the Dodger bats did just enough getting three runs on five hits and two generous errors given by the Rockies. The bullpen seemed to shore things up with Hong-Chih Kuo and Jonathan Broxton giving up two hits and getting five strikeouts combined. And get this. Manny Ramirez in his press conference when he first came to LA jokingly said that he would start stealing bases now that he was with the Dodgers. Well he came through on that promise stealing second standing up on what was supposed to be a hit-and-run play with Russell Martin at the plate. Whatever works. The Dodgers now go on the road for 10 games in 10 days at Philadelphia, Washington and Arizona.
LAst Night's Action: Angels Back on Winning Track
LA Angels defeat Baltimore Orioles 6-5. The Angels led the game 5-1 with two outs in the top of the ninth. What happens? Oh Francisco Rodriguez just blew the save (with help from a Mark Teix-error) to tie the game up 5-5. But the Angels came back in the bottom of the ninth with the bases loaded. Oriole's closer George Sherrill walked Chone Figgins with the walk off walk. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. The Angels are the first team in the majors to 70 wins.
