Can the threat of being shipped away to an irrelevant hockey team force an entire team to do a quick 180 turning their once laughable offense into something that resembles something respectable? That is apparently what happened to the Kings as they trounced the Chicago Blackhawks 4-0 with rumors of their Captain Dustin Brown and his hat trick being used as trade bait continued to make headlines on Twitter.

LAst Night's Action: USC Beats Pac-12 South Champion
USC Trojans defeat UCLA Bruins 50-0. So there you saw the Pac-12 South Champions get their asses handed to them by the team that ends the season in first place in the Pac-12 South. Thanks to the NCAA, that sentence is not only factual but completely logical. Go figure.
Kings Just Aren't That Good
The Kings just aren’t that good. They’re good, but they’re not in that upper echelon of Western Conference teams like the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, San Jose Sharks and Vancouver Canucks especially since they’ve yet to record a win against those four teams so far this season.
Luck and Consistency Not on Kings Side
It shouldn't have come down to a lucky rebound late in the third giving the Chicago Blackhawks the 4-3 win and the season sweep over the Kings. But when Jonathan Toews, in his first game back after missing two games with a shoulder injury, got that puck past Jonathan Quick for the game winning goal all the air left STAPLES Center.
“That's bad luck,” head coach Terry Murray said. “I guess when you're the Stanley Cup Champion you probably get breaks, you probably get lucky bounces like that.”
Indeed it was lucky. From the back of the net Quick made the save, but as Drew Doughty tried to clear the puck it hit Toews' leg going into the net for the game winner at 14:33 in the third period.
Road Woes Linger as Kings Return Home
After a disastrous road trip that ended in the calamity in Montreal, the Kings looked to bounce back at STAPLES Center against the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks. Instead their road woes continued at home as they did their impression of lost guppies in their 2-1 loss to the Hawks.
LAst Night's Action: Blake Griffin Electrifies in Clippers' Loss
Portland Trail Blazers defeat LA Clippers 98-88. The Clippers have been waiting for the debut of Blake Griffin for more than a year, and in the opening seconds of their game no. 1 he provided these two gems for his first two buckets of his young career:
LAst Night's Action: Kings Stink It Up Against Blackhawks
With white plastic clapping noisemakers given to the sold out Staples Center crowd of 18,118, the Kings mustered all of nothing in their 3-0 shutout loss to the Chicago Blackhawks.
It’s actually really difficult trying to come up with a reason for this kind of effort. The Kings hadn’t played since Sunday. The Blackhawks were down yet another defenseman after their Wednesday night game at Anaheim. The Blackhawks were using their backup goalie Antti Niemi with Cristobal Huet out with the flu. And let’s not forget: the Blackhawks played the night before.
LAst Night's Action: Ducks Play Cheap and Win
Anaheim Ducks defeat Chicago Blackhawks 4-2. The Ducks further cemented their reputation as a cheap shot team in their desperate win against Chicago. After Chicago defenseman Brent Seabrook made a clean hit on Corey Perry behind the Chicago net 2:12 into the second period, James Wisniewski decided to skate the...
LAst Night's Action: Kings Refuse To Back Down But Lose in OT
Chicago Blackhawks defeat LA Kings 3-2 (OT). Kings right winger Brad Richardson made a horrendous turnover at center ice giving the puck over to Blackhawks center Dave Bolland who then passed it to a charging Patrick Sharp...
LAst Night's Action: Hideous Mediocrity at Coliseum
LA Kings defeat Chicago Blackhawks 2-1 (SO). Goalie Jonathan Quick’s 32 saves kept the Kings in the game taking it to the shootout. Wayne Simmonds scored a goal 2:41 in the second period for the Kings while Jonathan Toews tied it for the Blackhawks with a power play goal 6:56 into the third period. In the overtime period Chicago had plenty of chances especially ending the period with a power play opportunity, but Quick did his job to help give the Kings the three points. Anze Kopitar and Jack Johnson scored in the shootout while Quick stopped two Chicago attempts.
LAst Night's Action: Clippers, Ducks Win
LA Clippers defeat Detroit Pistons 104-96. Chris Kaman in front of his family in Detroit scored 26 points missing only two field goal attempts paving the way for a Clippers road victory over the Pistons. Baron Davis scored 25 points while Al Thornton added 19. The Clippers defense held the Pistons to 40% shooting and nine blocked shots bringing their losing streak to seven. It probably would have helped the Pistons if they had Ben Gordon who was out with a sprained ankle. This was the Clippers first win in Detroit since February 19, 2001.
LAst Night's Action: Clips Stung by Hornets
Chicago Blackhawks defeat LA Kings 4-1. The Kings are reeling now losing two straight games in regulation after going 6-0-2. Penalty killing literally killed the Kings as they held strong for two periods holding a 1-1 tie. Third period power play goals by Troy Brouwer and Jonathan Toews blew the game open for the Blackhawks giving them an overall 73-72-21 lead all-time against the Kings. They Kings managed only 18 shots on goal all game including a paltry two shots in the third period. Anze Kopitar managed the only goal for the Kings in the second period giving him a league-leading 28 points making him the player to watch in the league. The loss leaves the four points behind the San Jose Sharks for the division and conference lead.
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Back to Winning
LA Lakers defeat Memphis Grizzlies 99-89. The Grizzlies had won five of their last seven games against the Lakers in Staples Center, but after losing their last two games the Lakers were determined not to let that happen. They forced the Grizzlies to just 41% shooting which gave the Lakers faithful their tacos. While this wasn't a great game by any stretch of the imagination for the Lakers, a win is a win. Lakers fans: you can breathe.
LAst Night's Action: Bruins, Trojans Defeat Bay Area Schools
UCLA Bruins defeat California Golden Bears 81-66. A 20-4 run to start the second half was all it took for the Bruins to dispatch Cal. The Bruins three-point shooting returned to form while Cal just fumbled along in the second half coughing up the ball. The Bruins are now tied for first place in the Pac-10 with the Washington Huskies who lost to Arizona.
LAst Night's Action: Better Showing for the Lakers
LA Lakers defeat Philadelphia 76ers 114-102. This time there was no last second put back. Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol made sure of that scoring all of the Lakers points in the last five minutes of the game. Bryant scored 32 points and Gasol got 22 as they staved off a come back from the 76ers. Former Clipper Elton Brand had an awful shooting game scoring only three points. He was so awful 76ers coach Mo Cheeks sat him down for the fourth quarter. The bright spot for the 76ers was Andre Miller who always seems to play his best game against the Lakers. He led the 76ers with 26 points.
