Trust us on this one: April is National Grilled Cheese Month. Just like last year, and the year before that, LAist thinks this is just about the ooey-gooeyest most delicious thing since--or involving--sliced bread.
We're Not Fooling: April Is National Grilled Cheese Month
New York Hearts L.A.
Unlike the rather tired and off-handed assessment of the LA food scene that the SF Chronicle tossed off about six months back, the New York Times has been showing how it's done: their recent piece on "36 Hours in Hollywood" and last week's survey of Sunset Junction. Okay, yes, some of their picks are probably geared to the curious tourist rather than the traveler interested in a more gritty L.A. experience -- Teddy's nightclub is one of their spots to hit up (although you do get to see L.A. teenage wildlife in its natural habitat).
Events: Wine, Readings, Peruvian Food
It’s Blue Monday at Silver Lake Wine from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. No RSVPs required for tonight’s triptych wine tasting with cheese from the Cheese Store of Silver Lake.
Breader Than the Rest
Breadbar – part of internationally lauded baker Eric Kayser’s expanding operation – has finally come to Los Angeles. Kayser’s timing is impeccable; there is truly no better way to celebrate the demise of Atkins than to indulge in the unbelievable baguettes, croissants, pastries and sandwiches. And although we like to champion locals, pastry prices at Breadbar are lower than Boule's precious goods.
Taste of the Nation LA
Option One is for both the VIP Champagne Brunch & Tasting Event, and costs $150 per person. There are Noon and 1 p.m. seatings, which include an elegant brunch served in the historic Ivy Substation with patio seating, a preview of the Silent Auction, and full access to Tasting Event. Monday On the Menu
Maison 140 hotel in Beverly Hills (near the Peninsula Hotel) has partnered with The Cheese Store of Beverly Hills to host monthly wine and cheese tastings in the hotel’s Bar Noir area (tucked into a corner of the lobby).
Feeling Wine-y
If the beginning of the work week gets you down, Silverlake Wine is ready to ease your pain. Their Blue Tuesday wine tastings require no reservation, feature snacks provided by the Cheese Store of Silverlake, and deliver three distinct wines to take the edge off the old grind.
The Royal We
Tonight at The Echo, show up at 8:00 PM for an Extreme Wine Tasting, "The Hypothetical Curries of Vagina Tandoori: The Wines of Château Julien of Carmel." This event matches six hypothetical curries to six wines from Château Julien of Carmel; to counter the hypothetical curry, there will be "pertinent fromage from the Cheese Store of Silver Lake" and a DJ spinning wine-drinking music. There is only room for 60, so buy your tickets early. Tickets are $18.00, and can be purchased at Sea Level Records. (21+)
