Tonight Rockford-based rockers Cheap Trick will be concluding their two-night stint at the House of Blues Sunset. Austin's own shredders the Sword (LAist Review) are coming through the Viper Room. Buffalo-based alternative rock outfit Mercury Rev will be performing at the El Rey Theatre with singer-songwriter Imaad Wasif (LAist Review). And, lastly, a handful of great local acts, like War Tapes, Seasons and Exitmusic, will be rocking out at Spaceland. But we strongly recommend that you head over to Space 15 Twenty for the Pablove Supreme Benefit. Not only are Eulogies (LAist Review, #2) playing, but Jimmy Tamborello (of the Postal Service & Dntel), Silversun Pickups and Daedelus are slated to DJ as well. Make it out for the great cause and great tunes!

Tonight Rockford-based rockers Cheap Trick will kick off a two-night stint at the House of Blues Sunset. Local fringe rock outfit the Movies (LAist Review, #2) are slated to continue their Monday Night Residency at Spaceland. And, lastly, Mike Stinson is headlining a country-centric bill at the Echoplex. But we recommend stopping by the Echo to catch the Manimal Vinyl Residency. Local experimental folk rockers Gangi (LAist Review) will be fusing beats, sound bites and a distinctive nasal tenor. Besides, you're probably all Movies-ed out by now—if that's even possible.

We're four months out from the official start of the 2008 Hollywood Bowl Season and the schedule is nearly complete. Single tickets won't go on sale for a couple months but the Bowl is offering 16 different series packages, each containing 3-5 genre-specific performances.

Acoustice performance of "Love My Way" by the Psychedelic Furs

Need some butt-rock to motivate your ass out the door to finish shopping? Luckily it's not just Satan, Satan, Satan all the time with these guys.

Bob Thompson’s passionate preview of last night’s Biblical Proof of UFOs show at Spaceland told the story of one of the truly great lost Los Angeles bands. Three unassuming nice guys who subverted the local scene for six-some years, then dissolved into the ether. Bob’s reverence is not undeserved. In their prime, BPUFO mastered the art of dynamics better than any band I’ve ever seen. I always pictured them crammed into a sweaty practice...

In the springtime when the Hollywood Bowl announced their schedule, a friend of mine made sure to secure tickets to the “Sgt. Pepper’s at 40...a Beatles Celebration featuring Cheap Trick”. For some reason he agreed to go camping at Catalina Island for the weekend with friends, so I ended up with tickets for Saturday night's performance. Looking around the audience in our Section R1 seats, the audience was what was expected for a bunch...

Rockstar: Supernova took a wrong turn down American Idol alley tonight, taping the arrival of the singers in their tricked out Honda Elements. We'll take solace that at least they didn't air commercials of the rockers riding the Elements through Hollywood like AI contestants did with the Ford Focus. So they didn't cheese out entirely. But there is one more show left.. All five of the finalists were in the bottom three at some...

TUESDAY

At MOCA at the Pacific Design Center, Frank Escher and Ravi GuneWardena, partners at Escher GuneWardena Architecture, will be giving an art talk on the Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec exhibition currently at MOCA. The talk begins at 6:30 PM.

LAist once saw someone do a karaoke rendition of Cheap Trick's "Surrender" that involved a blow-up guitar; particularly considering that the act took place in a coffee house, it was an impressive show. LAist is willing to concede, however, that tonight's actual Cheap Trick show at the Canyon Club will probably top it. Doors open at 6:00 PM for dinner reservations; the show starts at 8:00 PM. Tickets are $42.50.
