After a night where two of the three best teams in the NBA Western Conference matched up and featured a ferocious dunk, somehow Tuesday night was a bit of a breather on the excitement meter in Southern California. Hell, only the last two championship winning teams in Southern California played.
Lakers and Ducks Get Lopsided Yet Ho-Hum Wins
LAst Night's Action: Clips Snip 'Cats
LA Clippers defeat Charlotte Bobcats 92-87. It was a close game, but the Clippers emerged and held on to a lead in the waning minutes. Blake Griffin and Mo Williams led the Clips with 17 points while Griffin added 15 rebounds. Chris Kaman had a double-double off the bench with 16 points and ten assists while point guard Eric Bledsoe had 13 points from the bench.
LAst Night's Action: Road Kill
Charlotte Bobcats defeat LA Lakers 109-89. “I just have this to say. I'm very disappointed in our performance tonight. I'm embarrassed about what we did. That's it.”
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Get By Suns
LA Lakers defeat Phoenix Suns 102-96. After leading by seven points at the half, the Lakers extended their lead to 15 points. Treating the paint as if it were filled with landmines, the Lakers clanged jump shot after jump shot while Steve Nash then kicked it in full gear for the Suns who went on an 11-2 run to end the third period to bring the game within four. The Suns would eventually take the lead just under three minutes into the fourth quarter, but the Lakers then decided that attacking the paint might be a good idea. After not going to the charity stripe at all in the third quarter, the Lakers were awarded with ten shots at the free throw line. Two of those came via technical fouls when Suns coach Alvin Gentry went crazy when a flagrant foul was not called on Pau Gasol when he fouled Louis Amundson. Kobe Bryant had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds while the Suns Amare Stoudemire led all scorers with 29 points and 16 rebounds. Ron Artest got his shot going getting 15 points while Lamar Odom had four points on 2-for-8 shooting.
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Continue to Struggle against Bobcats
Charlotte Bobcats defeat LA Lakers 98-83. Right after the Lakers overtime loss in Miami I tweeted that the Lakers would also lose this game in Charlotte, and they did not disappoint. After trailing the Bobcats by six going into the half, the Lakers came out in the third quarter playing their worst basketball in years. Three turnovers, two misses and blocked twice, the Lakers did not get a field goal until Derek Fisher knocked in a three 4:27.
LAst Night's Action: Clips Edge Bobcats for Second Consecutive Win
LA Clippers defeat Charlotte Bobcats 98-94. After some very painful games, the Clippers have now won two games in a row for their interim head coach Kim Hughes. The Clippers leading for most of the game lost control in the third quarter due to sloppy ball handling giving the lead to the Bobcats, but the Bobcats returned the favor in the fourth quarter...
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Get Over the Bobcat's Hump
LA Lakers defeat Charlotte Bobcats 99-97. It took more than four years, but the Lakers finally beat the Bobcats again at home. It was another choppy game, but this time the Lakers didn’t cede the lead at the end of the game. Lamar Odom led the Lakers in scoring with 19 points while Andrew Bynum had 17 points and 14 rebounds. Kobe Bryant after setting the scoring mark on Monday scored a measly five points thanks to tweaking his ankle after getting tied up with Odom who has a penchant for being involved in his teammates’ injuries. Stephen Jackson scored 30 for the Cats while Nazr Mohammed filled in nicely for an absent Gerald Wallace with 23 points. This win now gives coach Phil Jackson the most wins for a Lakers coach.
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Unravel Again
Charlotte Bobcats defeat LA Lakers 94-84. I was afraid of this game knowing the Laker's troubles with the Bobcats. In fact the Lakers are only 6-8 against the Bobcats. The Lakers shot an abysmal 39% on a team where no one performed well. In fact they outshot the Bobcats 97-68. The Bobcats meanwhile become only the second team to beat the Lakers twice and are within one game of a playoff spot in the East.
Adam Morrison Now a Laker
The Lakers traded forward Vladimir Radmonovic to the Charlotte Bobcats for forward Adam Morrison and guard Shannon Brown. After having an outstanding college career at Gonzaga, Morrison is averaging 4.5 points and 1.6 rebounds in 15.2 minutes this season. Brown averages 4.8 points in 11.4 minutes and gives added depth at the guard position for the Lakers. Forum Blue and Gold has a good analysis of the trade. AP Photo/Jason DeCrow
LAst Night's Action: Bobcats Maul Lakers
Charlotte Bobcats defeat LA Lakers 117-110 (2OT). Coming into the game the Lakers had lost their last two matchups against the Bobcats at the Staples Center. A team that has never won more 33 games in their four seasons of existence has really confounded the Lakers. It was more of the same in this game. Despite being outplayed by the Bobcats from the opening tip off, the Lakers had plenty of chances to win the game. But their shoddy defense of the Bobcats' screens left shooters wide open. Kobe fouled out towards the end of the first overtime, and the Bobcats took advantage. Trevor Ariza left the game in the first half with a concussion. No word yet on how long Ariza will be out. The Lakers now head off on the road.
LAst Night's Action: Farmar Continues to Lead Lakers to Victory
LA Lakers defeat Charlotte Bobcats 102-98. Jordan Farmar led all Lakers scorers with 17 points in just 22 minutes played to help the Lakers squeak past the still-winless Bobcats. After trailing by six at half time and by as much as nine in the third quarter the Lakers started to clamp down on the Bobcats to get back into the game. With an Andrew Bynum slam dunk to open up the fourth quarter, the Lakers took their first lead since the first half. Although Pau Gasol and Bynum seem to be playing better together, they still have a lot of shore up. Scary moment happened in the second quarter when new Laker Josh Powell and Kobe Bryant both went up for a rebound and collided knees. Bryant landed awkwardly and hyperextended his knee. He will be day-to-day.
Sneaking Out The Backdoor
Wow. Talk about winning a game you deserve to lose. The Lakers had no business winning last night against the lowly Charlotte Bobcats (who were 1-9 on the road and 5-12 overall coming into the game), but thanks to a pair of clanged free throws by career 78% free throw shooter Brevin Knight down the stretch, the Lakers escaped with a 99-98 win.
