Nicolas Cage retains his title as the Enigma with this week's release of Knowing. I know I'm repeating myself, but has there been an actor in recent history who's made more mystifying choices? Rarely is an actor either brilliant or awful. Cage is always EXACTLY that. I first noticed Odette Yustman in a tiny cameo in Walk Hard. Yeah, she jumps off the screen like that. Too bad The Unborn is rote horror bilge. You know, the MST3K folks could probably make a very funny movie about Push. Dorky storyline? Check! Bad special effects? Check!

Controversial contestant Joanna Pacitti has finally been pulled from "American Idol" after it was revealed that she had friendships with multiple executives with "Idol" co-producer 19 Entertainment. For fans of the show who couldn't believe that she had made the cut after performing poorly and fumbling lyrics to several songs during the Hollywood rounds of auditions, it will be assumed that she had moved ahead due to these personal relationships and not merit.

It looks like a lot is on tonight but as a commentor said yesterday, "TV really blows these days" - I agree. Lifetime has launched an online series hosted by Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead called "Gift Intervention", it's kind of like an Antiques Roadshow for really bad gifts combined with an outing of the bad-giftor.

It's December and Los Angeles is rife with holiday plays and musicals. Just because you're too old to land the starring role in the Christmas pageant, or don't happen to have kids who are performing in one, don't think you get to skip your seasonal dose of fabricated sentiment. Afterall, when it's 80 degrees outside, we Angelinos can use all the holiday cheer (or parodies there of) we can possibly stand.

Just read that one of Sid Caesar's writers, Mel Tolkin, just passed away at age 94, godlove'im. Instead of running vintage Leno re-runs they should be running some of this classic comedy that actually had great writing from way back in the day. Watching Nip/Tuck has always been a dirty and guilty pleasure. We really love the TV special "A Charlie Brown Christmas," but it's hard to watch it with a an innocent eye after finding Donavan Freberg's blogs (first link rated "G," second link NSFW). Today is the 40th anniversary of the beloved reality program, er... television special, "It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!". CBS aired this half-hour, Emmy-nominated animation for the first time on October 27, 1966, and the Charles M. Schultz Peanuts masterpiece has been rebroadcast every year since (it changed hands in 2001 when ABC picked up the rights).
