Will Dunkin' Donuts Finally Grace L.A.?

Will Dunkin' Donuts Finally Grace L.A.?

One doughnut eatery whose fried pastries and coffee are craved by a large portion of the western United States - Dunkin' Donuts - has failed to make an appearance in Los Angeles. But soon-ish withdrawn diners may hold a glazed, jelly-filled wonder in their shaking hands. Or a hearty, ooey gooey breakfast sammie. Or a steaming cup of coffee. more ›

Dunkin' Donuts Makes a Russian Comeback. Still None in L.A.

Dunkin' Donuts Makes a Russian Comeback. Still None in L.A.

It comes up all the time in conversation in Los Angeles, especially if you're talking with East Coast ex-pats: Why are there still no Dunkin' Donuts in Los Angeles? The international donut and coffee franchise has zero presence in California (the coffee you can buy at the grocery store doesn't count), which baffles many who swear by their sweets and caffeinated beverages. more ›

Map: Conquering the Fast Food McForce

Map: Conquering the Fast Food McForce

Just how saturated is America by the top 8 fast food burger chains? This map, created by Weather Sealed, illustrates the density of each chain across the nation. McDonald's--in the black--obviously dominates, but it looks like here in Southern California the market leader is Jack in the Box. Oddly enough, none of their burger offerings made our list of the top burgers in Los Angeles. more ›

K.I.S.S.: Simplicity the Secret of In-N-Out's Success?

K.I.S.S.: Simplicity the Secret of In-N-Out's Success?

For many of us on the West Coast, we take our In-N-Out seriously. We know we love it, we know how to order off the (not-so-secret?) secret menu, we know our own favorite order. You don't have to have a reservation, or be a celeb to get the best of the best from them (although not too long ago actor Tom Hanks told the newly (re)arrived Conan O'Brien he thinks their catering truck beats the Batmobile). But--besides their sauce--what's their actual secret? more ›

Memo From Fast Food CEO Jack Box: Time For a Makeover!

You might think it's just fast food, but for national chain Jack in the Box, image is everything. The company is announcing today via iconic "mouthpiece" CEO Jack Box they are embarking on "a major brand overhaul that includes a new modern logo, the debut of sliders and a makeover at more than 2,000 restaurants," according to the OC Register's Fast Food Maven. Rumors swirled about logo changes last year when they tested new signage at locations in San Diego, where the restaurant began in 1951 and remains headquartered today. CEO Jack hasn't been "seen" since the SuperBowl, when he was hit by a bus, stirring fears among fans and loyalists that the sphere-headed spokesman would be gone forever. Something tells us, though, most people won't care what the logo looks like as long as they can still get two tacos for 99 cents! more ›

Starbucks Wants to Save Bucks; Sorry Decaf Drinkers!

Starbucks Wants to Save Bucks; Sorry Decaf Drinkers!

If you are a decaf coffee drinker* and you like to grab your jitter-free java at Starbucks, get ready to cut your consumer hours...or up your wait time. The world's largest coffee chain has announced plans to save some bucks--"$400 million by September," according to USA Today--by having brewed decaf sitting ready only until noon. After noon, customers who want a cup of decaf will have to request it and sit tight; a 'bucks spokesperson said "it takes about four minutes to brew up a fresh cup." The stores wind up wasting product by brewing pots of decaf continually since the demand decreases in the afternoon, and these days, even for the coffee maven, saving a few bucks can go a long way. (*Seriously, what's the point?) more ›
