New Downtown Captain Emphasizes Community Policing

On Sunday, Captain Blake Chow will take over the LAPD's Central Division, which mainly covers downtown. In a short bio released by the department, it credits Chow's rise in the chain of command--from a foot beat cop to commanding officer--with his community policing skills. “I have had the unique opportunity to see the Downtown area in many phases, from the civil unrest that marred many areas of our City, to reemergence, and to the renaissance that is now taking place," Chow said, "I am committed to forging strong partnerships with the residents, businesses, and every entity that calls Downtown home. I know that the key to making Downtown better and safer is a good relationship with our partners in the community.”

The Cincinnati Reds, in town the past 3 days, were in 2nd place in the Central Division and 1st place in the Wild Card standings when the series started. They have a formidable line-up that includes future Hall of Famer Ken Griffey, Jr., slugger Adam Dunn, former Dodger David Ross, gruff and hard-nosed player Ryan Freel, and rookie phenom Edwin Encarnacion. Fortunately, these Reds were no match for the mighty men in Blue this week. Cincinnati was swept and they now find themselves a game and a half behind the Padres in the Wild Card race. The Blue Crew earned a 5 game winning streak.
