What's in a name? Well, for residents and leaders who have won the battle to keep the San Fernando Valley designated as "America's Suburb," it means everything.

We were looking for a counterpoint to "Jack Dunphy's" assertion in The Times earlier this week that the paper was biased against the LAPD and that it was particularly telling in their coverage of the Devin Brown shooting. Dunphy presents an interesting case but his own desire to be "fair and balanced" in his critique of the Times seems to do his point a disservice.

Our wonderfully cool buddies over at NBC4 report this morning that "according to new census figures, California leads the nation in registration of sport utility vehicles, with nearly 2.8 million of the gas guzzlers in 2002."
