Today is the long-awaited launch of the Gold Line's Eastside Extension, which links Downtown's historic Union Station via light rail to Little Tokyo, Mariachi Plaza, and heart of East Los Angeles, ending at Atlantic. To celebrate, rides from one end of the Gold Line to the other are free today, and there are four events that include food and music from the communities scheduled to happen at or near stations along the line

The Kings were riding a comfy 3-0 lead late in the second period on Thursday night, and were ready to cruise to a victory, but they didn't account for Anaheim's Bobby Ryan. The rookie who began his season in the minors and was called up in November put on a clinic, scoring a hat trick (three goals) against Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick in the span of 2:21 to set a new franchise record and also tie the game.

                     

The Kings newest goaltender, Jonathan Quick, continued his stingy ways during his fifth NHL start by holding the Atlantic Division leading Philadelphia Flyers to just one goal on Saturday night. Scott Hartnell scored the lone tally for the Flyers three minutes into the middle period, but was matched by rookie Wayne Simmonds during a Kings' power play late in the period. The game stayed tied through overtime and resulted in a shootout.

To celebrate their thirty year birthday, Morton's (The Steakhouse) will be giving away free Mini-Prime Burgers (aka sliders) this Sunday. One catch though. It's only from 5 to 6 p.m. And sorry large parties, this offer is available only at the bar (I guess that's two catches then.) Available at all Morton's locations.

It's summer, so getting your celebration on before the weekend isn't unheard of (oh, and, yeah, it's LA--we like to celebrate!) which is why if you enjoy tequila, you should be ready to honor the south of the border beverage import tomorrow.
