Car Crashes into Building, Pedestrian at Wilshire/La Brea

A car crash into a Bank of America building around 8:20 a.m. has left at least one person injured and traffic snarled along the Wilshire and La Brea corridors. "It's a mess, avoid the intersection for the next hour or so, said a KNX1070 broadcaster. Records with the L.A. Fire Department do not indicate a car into the building yet, but show a possible auto vs. pedestrian incident. A fire hydrant has also been sheared, shooting water into the air.

Another day, another pedestrian accident? A 60-year-old man was killed last night around 6 p.m. in Van Nuys when he was hit by a vehicle involved in a car crash. "A car was making a left from Sepulveda onto Lanark Street when it collided with an on-coming vehicle," explained the LA Times via the LAPD. "That car careened off the road and struck the pedestrian." Then this morning, two 12-year-old boys in North Hollywood were struck by a car and air lifted to children's hospital with moderate injuries. The conditions surrounding the incident near the 5 Freeway and Laurel Canyon were not immediately known.

Angels Pitcher Nick Adenhart Dies in Orange County Accident

Just hours after playing a game last night, Nick Adenhart and two others died when a mini van ran a red light in Fullerton shortly after midnight. Another person from the vehicle remains in the hospital. The driver of the mini van fled the scene, but was caught and arrested a mile away by police. A passenger in that vehicle was also taken to the hospital.

An accident involving a number of vehicles has left at least one person dead and several others injured. Shortly before 4 p.m., the LA Fire Department responded to the crash on the westbound 10 Freeway at Overland Avenue. As of 4:30, it was unknown how many people were injured, but d'Lisa Davies did confirm one fatality. She said some people were ejected from their cars and at least one car rolled over. A SigAlert, which could last up to two hours, has been issued. UPDATE: 3 women were injured and another woman, approximately around 65 years old, died.

How's this for a little car-on-car action? An afternoon rush hour crash between four vehicles left an SUV on top of two cars. A fourth vehicle was reportedly involved--it appears to have rear ended one of the toppled cars.

After being involved in an accident that turned into a hit-and-run in West Hollywood yesterday afternoon, Drew Barrymore followed fleeing vehicle obtaining the license plate number.

A man suspected of a DUI (influence of heroin that is) was driving on the 100 block of Washington Blvd. last night where officers on patrol witnessed him hit up to ten parked cars near the intersection of Strongs Drive. When officers approached the vehicle, the man resisted attempts by the officers to take him out of the van by allegedly poking them both with a syringe, according to KCBS. The officers then subdued the man by using a taser twice on his back.

At least two people were injured when a car crashed into a Burbank post office today at noon near Hollywood Way and Empire Avenue reported KCBS. Both victims were taken to a hospital.

Speaking of that 14-car pile-up this morning on the 101 freeway, how about this fact via the Daily Breeze? There's a near $11-billion price "cost to society" due to car crashes according to a study called "Crashes: What's the Cost to Society?"

Ted Terbolizard, a republican congressional candidate running for the 4th district (Northeastern California) in the June election, was arrested in Grass Valley over the weekend on suspicion of drunken driving. Normally, we would not report on a potential congressman who has not much to do in Los Angeles. Beside his name being Terbolizard (we love it), that he is a fervent Ron Paul fan and the fact that he actually blogs and loves the arts, he gets one of those "politicians say the darndest things" awards after his defense of the recent arrest. Courtesy of the Sacremento Bee's Capitol Alert blog via the candidate's blog:

"It's not like the sort of Lindsay Lohan story or Nicole Ritchie (sic) story where I was driving 5 mph the wrong way on the freeway with the doors open and a car full of narcotics, it was absolutley (sic) nothing like that; no car crash or anything." [Capitol Alert]
Heh, "...with doors open and a car full of narcotics." Classic. He was later quoted saying “The press will have a hard time ignoring this.” We almost did ignore it until he brought Hollywood in. And as one commenter on his blog said, we're "glad you are alright and hope you can learn from this.” At this point, that's what is important.

">then on the westbound 101 in Tarzana, snarled morning commuters today. Needless to say, traffic backed up to the 101/405 interchange which is the busiest freeway interchange in the United States.

In media, saturation is key. This weekend in Los Angeles, there are two storms wrecking their havoc on our city; one of them involves buckets of rain, and the other involves Britney Spears. Both of them are causing different kinds of deluges.

As the early crowd began to show up at bars in Hollywood last night, a few blocks away at Highland and Sunset at Hollywood High School one of the 17 or so LAPD Airships was making an emergency landing on the football field due to mechanical problems around 9:40 p.m. It landed safely and no injuries were reported according to Cecil Manresa, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman. The LAPD reports that the helicopter is still there as mechanics work on it. Once fixed, it will take off.

Details continue to emerge about the strange case of the woman whose body was found at a towyard the day after she died in a car crash in the San Fernando Valley. The woman had been driving with her son, who now claims that his epilepsy caused him to crash the car -- and to forget he had his mother in the car with him. He believes a seizure may have led him to drive his car into a building. From the Los Angeles Times:

"The man whose 72-year-old mother was left behind in a crumpled car towed to a police impound lot said Wednesday that he remembers little about the car crash that killed her and put him in a hospital intensive care unit.

The coroner's results are in regarding Saturday morning's crash in Tarzana in which the driver was rescued, but the passenger was not seen and towed away in the car, only to be found the next day dead.

File this under "oops." After a Saturday morning solo car crash involving a son and mother in Tarzana on Ventura Blvd., fire and police officials failed to notice a woman in the passenger seat under the air bag after removing her son from the driver's seat.

The woman, whose identity was not released, had apparently been left in the car at the accident scene in Tarzana even as her son was taken to a hospital, police said.

How's this for a lede? "If you get in a car crash in the San Fernando Valley, there's about a 50-50 chance you'll flee the scene - and get away with it." Ha! That's almost instructional. In a comprehensive report on hit-and-runs by the Daily News, it is found there is a lot of hitting, running and general douchebaggery in Los Angeles. Yes, we all knew that after day one, but here are some...

Earlier this week, CBS2 happened to be hovering over Universal City right after this four car collision occurred. One car is a bonfire, onlookers gawk from the sidewalk and traffic rolls by like it is any other day (check out the car that drives within feet of the fire at 1:47). Video taken from CBS2 news coverage...

Following a flap from an LA Times article that found 60,000 LAUSD students attend school within 500 feet of a freeway, the school district is looking into ways it can reduce the health hazards for kids close to pollution-filled freeways. Maybe the school district can use the $53 million in funds they're trying to recoup to build domes over playgrounds. Thousands of birds and an immeasurable amount of fish have died as a result...

Nick Hogan has been criminally charged with reckless driving because he was drinking before his August car crash. Another faux- celeb headed to the clink? - TMZ

Orlando Bloom will not be prosecuted after an October 12th incident in which he injured his two passengers in a car crash involving parked cars. He said he was avoiding a photographer who suddenly changed lanes. Seeing these paparazzi in action, we suspect it was them who caused the crash, most likely on purpose for some higher dollar photo sales. Starting from last week today, the San Jose Mercury News has a great timeline...

You know those annoying people who speed down local streets, swerving in, out and between lanes? This is their brain on stupid:WINNETKA - A man was killed tonight when his speeding car overturned and hit at least two other vehicles at a backed-up intersection, police said. The crash was reported at about 9:10 p.m. at Mason Avenue and Sherman Way, said Sgt. Charles Swanson of LAPD's Valley Traffic division. The driver, who was ejected from...

Wandering home after a Tuesday night of philandering we happened upon this tearful sight -- what appeared to be a Bentley in a fender-bender with a minivan. It's not often that such cars are involved in a traffic collision, so when it does happen it is somewhat of a spectacle. We were expecting to see rubberneckers up and down the block emerge, without shoes even (fuck shoes!), but this was not the case. It...

The M+M's are definitely Britney and her girls, y'all, but don't blink because they gave San Diego 14 minutes Tuesday and trimmed it down to 12 minutes last night in Downtown Disney, so if you're in the beer line and hear familiar music you should probably, um, get out of line because before you can say hey-shes-lipsynching-while-chewing-gum the show will be over The M+M's (Britney Spears) @ House of Blues Velvet Revolver @ Avalon...

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist David Halberstam died yesterday in a car crash in Menlo Park, CA. He was 73. Halberstam’s work as a journalist ranges wide and delves deep. He covered the Korean War, the Vietnam War and civil rights but he was also fascinated with the humanity and spectacle of sports. He did not simply document the history he lived through – he explained complex societal constructs and cultural shifts in a way that anyone could easily understand. He was one of the only journalists who questioned the Vietnam War early on and it was this same questioning – throughout his life and his work – that allowed him to uncover facts that other journalists side-stepped.

With all that went down this week, we thought we thought we'd cheer everyone up by giving everyone a double dose of dogs.
