For the first time ever, one of NASCAR's Chase for the Sprint Cup races will be hosted at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana this weekend with the Sprint Cup Pepsi 500 on Sunday.

LAist recently got the opportunity to sit down with Marc Canter, author of "Reckless Road; Guns n' Roses and the Making of Appetite for Destruction." Not only is he still best friends with Slash, but his family owns the infamous Canter's Deli on Fairfax. Over a cup of coffee and some delicious treats from the bakery, we talked with Marc for almost three hours about L.A. in the 80's, his amazing collection of memorabilia, and the rise of one of the best rock bands to come out of Los Angeles.

When it comes to straightforward chicken broth, Canter's on Fairfax is the broth to beat. It is so hot and soothing, so flavorful. They must put the chicken feet in to get that kind of flavor. You can have chicken or carrots as ad-ins. I chose chicken, and big, moist, chunks of chicken peeled off in strings at the touch of the spoon. It is the best chicken soup around.

Attention space cadets, men in black and intergalactic babes, your resistance to snack attacks of insomnia are not to be heeded. Point your ship towards Fairfax Village and prepare to wine and dine in the alien kitsched, mellowed out, droid welcoming version of the Mos Eisley Cantina at Nova Express Cafe. Open six nights a week (no Mondays) starting at 7 p.m., Nova stays open until 2 a.m. Sundays through Wednesdays, 3.am. on Thursdays...

So we don't have an official Little Italy? Psahw! Screw it! Stop visiting Canter's in Fairfax Village so much and head a little more South to Little Ethiopia once in awhile.
