Much Ado About Super Bowl Nothings, Then Kobe Makes History

Much Ado About Super Bowl Nothings, Then Kobe Makes History

It really does seem people just like to foam at the mouth over the most irrelevant things. I understand people being horrified by what happened in Penn State and various LAUSD schools. Being horrified by the Holocaust is also acceptable. There needs to be some gravitas is the things we rise up against. That’s why the furor over MIA and Giselle is perplexing. more ›

Kings Burned by Flames in Shootout

Kings Burned by Flames in Shootout

As the Kings started their just completed road trip with a Sutter Brothers showdown, they started their four-game home stand with a rematch. While the first matchup was a 4-1 victory for the Kings up in the wasteland of Calgary last week, the rematch was less than inspiring as the Kings lost 2-1 in a shootout. more ›

Kings Ice Flames in Shootout

What’s black and purple and as effective as a wet towel? If you answered the Kings power-play then you deserve a cookie. But for one sweet moment in the 73rd game of the season in their 2-1 shootout victory over the Calgary Flames, they executed it to almost-perfection. more ›

Kings Ice Flames 2-1

The Kings always seem to have problems with the Calgary Flames losing six of their last ten showdowns at STAPLES Center. On this night however, the Kings reversed that trend in their 2-1 win. “They’re always a tough team to play against,” head coach Terry Murray said. “They got some real top guys in the league.” Despite that, the Kings put together a consistent 60 minutes on the ice dominating the game even though the score didn’t indicate it. “In my three years here, tonight was the best 60 minutes we played against that team,” Drew Doughty said. “In that 60 minutes I thought we were pretty stellar the entire time except for maybe that last five minutes when they got that goal.” more ›

LAst Night's Action: Kings Offense Sputters

LAst Night's Action: Kings Offense Sputters

Calgary Flames defeat LA Kings 3-1. The Kings continued to have a lot of problems in the offensive zone with the Flames poking and swarming the Kings like gnats. As such the Kings never really had any rhythm on offense usually being held to only one scoring chance per cycle. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Clippers, Ducks Falter on the Road

LAst Night's Action: Clippers, Ducks Falter on the Road

Dallas Mavericks defeat LA Clippers 106-96. Dirk Nowitzki was called for a foul on Drew Gooden with 9:16 left in the third quarter with the Mavs up 65-56. The Clips would then go a run to take the lead 75-71 with the Mavs scoring a grand total of 14 points in the third. But Jason Kidd took over scoring a season high 26 points on his 37th birthday and led the Mavs back for the victory. Gooden who started off the season with the Mavs led the Clips with 26 points and 20 rebounds while Chris Kaman had 22 points and nine rebounds. Eric Gordon and Rasual Butler each added 16 points while the bench produced all of five points. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Clippers Hold Off T-Wolves

LAst Night's Action: Clippers Hold Off T-Wolves

LA Clippers defeat Minnesota Timberwolves 91-87. In reference to their suspension for Friday night’s game, Clippers play-by-play announcer Ralph Lawler after describing Timberwolves backup forward Nathan Jawai’s play told his partner Mike Smith, “And I’m not going to ask where Jawai is from.” The Clippers started out lackadaisical while the Wolves were shooting over 50% to start off the game. But as the game went on, that shooting percentage went down while the Clippers found the energy thanks to Al Thornton who had a monster game with 31 points on 11-for-16 shooting with 10 rebounds. Baron Davis did not have a single point in the game going into the final seconds. In the final minute with only a 89-87 lead Baron drove to the hoop for a layup with 8.5 seconds left in the game, his first score being perhaps the most crucial. With the back-to-back win giving the Clippers a 6-9 record, the T-Wolves remain with only one win. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Defeat Peavy

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Defeat Peavy

LA Dodgers defeat San Diego Padres 4-1. Manny Ramirez went 0-for-3 with a walk and scored a run in the third inning thanks in large part to an errant pick-off play by Padres ace Jake Peavy. The game started off on the right foot for the Dodgers when Rafael Furcal and Orlando Hudson led off the game with consecutive singles. Matt Kemp would close out the scoring with a towering home run to deep center field in the seventh inning. Kemp also robbed Jody Gerut of a line drive double when he made a diving catch into the sunlight in the sixth inning. Despite having a shaky spring, Jonathan Broxton smoked the ball by the last three Padres hitters striking out two for a perfect ninth. This marks the second time Peavy has lost to the Dodgers, the first since 2003 when Kevin Brown was the winning pitcher for the Dodgers. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Bruins Bedeviled

Arizona State Sun Devils defeat UCLA Bruins 74-67. UCLA couldn't get it done down the stretch which allowed the Sun Devils to sweep the season series. The Bruins fell behind by as much as 12 points in the first half before using their defense to tie the game by halftime. While the game was close throughout the second half with the Bruins maintaining a slight lead throughout, the Bruins just collapsed. Alfred Aboya got hit with a technical foul after making contact with the ball before Sun Devil Rihard Kuksiks inbounded the ball with the Bruins down by only two. Arizona State made both free throws and Jeff Pendergraph threw down a dunk to ice the game. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Play Like They Mean It

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Play Like They Mean It

LA Lakers defeat New Orleans Hornets 100-87. Sometimes I really think the Lakers just want to fuck with us. They came out and played like the team we all thought they were. The Lakers held the Hornets to 42% shooting and Chris Paul to 17 points on 6-for-16 shooting and 10 assists. Offensively there really isn't anything to worry about with the Lakers aside from the occasional off-shooting night. Kobe and Pau got their points while Andrew Bynum stayed out of foul trouble. The last time the Lakers faced the Hornets they had a huge lead slip away to just three points at the end of the game. There was no such collapse this time around. more ›

LA Kings Lose Fourth Straight

             + 8 more

19-year-old rookie Oscar Moller scored two goals for the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night, but it wasn't enough to prevent their fourth straight loss as the Calgary Flames scored three of their own for the win. Moller's second tally of the game evened the scoring at two apiece, but the Flames' Daymond Langkow put the game-winner away with 3:37 remaining to seal the victory. more ›

Game Day Preview: Kings Must-Win?

Game Day Preview: Kings Must-Win?

It might seem hard to believe that tonight’s game between the Phoenix Coyotes and your Los Angeles Kings carries any weight, but it does, and I’ll tell you why. With 21 games left in the season, and a lowly 53 points to their cellar-dwelling name, the Kings would be mathematically eliminated from playoff contention with a loss tonight. more ›
