Pencil This In: Doggie Costume Contest, Chimay Dinner at BOHO

Banjoist Béla Fleck, Indian tabla player Zakir Hussain and bassist Edgar Meyer perform live together tonight at UCLA’s Royce Hall to promote their CD, The Melody of a Rhythm, which intertwine bluegrass, world and classical music. Tickets $38-$70. ($15 UCLA Students). The concert begins at 8 pm.

PERFORMANCE: CalArts hosts Javanese choreographer, dancer and filmmaker Sardono W. Kusumo in “Of Volcanoes and Rocks” for an evening of music and dance. Kusumo is joined by CalArts master musicians to “forge new links across Hindustani, Indonesian and Western performance practices.” The performance starts tonight at 8:30 pm at REDCAT. Tickets are $20 (students $16).

       

When we first heard about Upper Manhattan Lounge in Manhattan Beach, we had to check it out. Apparently, they have a long martini list. Sure it's not a list with anything really intriguing on it (just one Manhattan cocktail) but it IS something unusual for MB. The lounge opened up this past July but we weren't able to get there til just this Friday. Hey, MB is FAR! Farther than downtown is from us.
