When is the cultural myth of vagina dentata. Jess Weixler plays Dawn, a young Christian girl who is struggling with her budding sexuality and the aggressive attentions of the men around her. She soon discovers that she possesses the ultimate weapon against over-familiarity.

First launched in May of 1945, the Lane Victory saw service in three wars (WW2, Korea, and Vietnam), and is now maintained as a museum ship and docked at LA Harbor Berth 94 in San Pedro. Although the Lane Victory wasn't a combat ship (she was operated as a Merchant Marine vessel and carried cargo), she saw plenty of action and still has all her guns, some of which are still occasionally fired. Nothing...

My sister decided to be the best sibling in the world and buy tickets for me to see Justin Timberlake at the Mandalay Bay. The only bad part about it was that it was on September 1, smack dab in the middle of Labor Day weekend. If you've ever headed to Las Vegas or the river during this time, you know it can be a total pain in the ass. I believe the 15...

Mikey AvalonAfter putting together an insane line up of bands, and secruing the incredible Exposition Park in Downtown Los Angeles for the venue, The Neighborhood Festival hooked up with LAist's favorite locally-based photo sharing community, Buzznet in a ticket giveaway bonanza.

The Fuck Yeah Fest IV has creeped upon Los Angeles like a wedgie at a water park. Be there this weekend and join the legions of depraved and debaucherous rock and roll souls as they wander the lovely and history Echo Park in search of their sonic masters. 50 bands. 5 venues. 2 days. And all the music, art and comedy you can eat for the nice price of $24. LAist has a pair...

Steven Schmidt We've told you about the Sundays Live tradition stemming from 1948 here in Los Angeles before, but we'll tell you again: this is essential LA. 1) It's at LACMA. 2) It's Free. 3) It's Quality. Tonight, they present percussionist Steven Schmidt alongside Mládí, the conductor-less chamber orchestra known for their concerts at the historically famous Los Altos Apartments in Wilshire Center. The diverse program includes Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů, Schmidt's own Images...

Among the big changes at Dodger Stadium during the off-season was the conversion of the right field pavilion into a $35 all-you-can-eat bonanza loving termed the Pigvilion. The acids in my GI tract started churning just at the thought of it. I vowed never to sit there.

Before we admit to liking Fall Out Boy, we just want to say that the easiest thing in the world to like are the cool things - Sonic Youth, Geto Boys, Iggy, Gwar, The Beasties. But to learn to appreciate something for what it is, and not for the pimply teens who also like it, takes a cultured and courageous critic. Not to mention an honest one.

It was unfortunate that we finally got to see Slava's Snowshow on closing night in January at UCLA Live because it was probably one of the coolest things and we wish we had time to warn you to go buy tickets. If it comes around again, you must see it. No questions asked. This video is taken after the show was over when Slava and the clowns let out these huge-ass balls that we...

LAist loves the Echo. They might have recently raised drink prices, a sure sign of Echo Park gentrification, but we still heart their ability to bring in good local bands, sponsor great theme nights, pack the house and show everyone how it’s done. This past weekend was no different with fans of local acts Yellow Sun, Silversun Pickups and San Francisco’s Film School.

Mon 6/12 - Boy Kill Boy / Monsters are Waiting @ Spaceland (Free) – Spaceland's always a safe bet on Monday night. London’s Boy Kill Boy play that catchy dance-rock that you might like if you’re into Bloc Party and Franz Ferdinand. They’ve been on tour with Charlatans and Echo & the Bunnymen, so take advantage of seeing them for free. They’re also playing Lollapalooza and the Reading and Leeds festivals. Their first single, “Suzie” has gotten some local radio airplay. Local band, Monsters are Waiting is doing the free Monday night residency throughout June. Into older school British rock? catch Echo & the Bunnymen at the Fonda.

It's good to be a live music fan in Los Angeles. We regularly get the opportunity to see shows that people in other cities (with the exception of New York) don't get to see. Last week we attended three "special" performances.

After what was only meant to be a week-long hiatus, LAist is officially returning to it's customary events posts. For those who missed our events coverage, we apologize, but the delay could not be helped, as we were waiting for SBC to figure out why our phone, and then our DSL, would not work. Three weeks later, we're back in action.

But California Angels never quite worked, and who wants to be called the Anaheim Angels?

Okay, fine, we give up. Maybe this is more your speed.

Admission is $5.00, which also allows attendees acess to the "Album Cover Art Retrospective" post-crawl party. The Crawl continues throughout the weekend, running from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday.

We love being at the beach, but sometimes get bored with the perfect bodies, gorgeous sunsets, and lilting blue waters. Fortunately there is the Santa Monica Drive-In: free screenings of classic and relatively recent films. The screenings occur at the Pier every Tuesday through October 5 and are strictly family-friendly. The tickets for admission are free but you can also buy tickets for a raffle to benefit the Cancer Relief Fund.

Knowing that the plays of Shakespeare and the hit television show "The Simpsons" are two pieces of superior entertainment that have been running longer than their counterparts, LAist couldn't help but get excited when we heard about the unique entertainment experience called "MacHomer."
