Trail of Shoe Prints Lead to the Arrest of 4 Burglars

Out in Pomona, police arrested four young men who burglarized a home Friday night and left a trail of shoe prints that aided police in their quick capture. They were found nearby, "sleeping in a garage stacked with the stolen property, and with some of the ill-gotten goods in their pockets," according to ABC7. Items from other possible burglaries were also found. The four will be arraigned tomorrow.

Man Murdered in Valley Home, LAPD Looking for 10 Suspects

An apparent burglary in the Northeast Valley neighborhood of Sunlund last night left one man dead and another person in the hospital. Police are searching for up to 10 suspects who may be involved in the incident, according to a spokesman over the phone. Details on that end are still sketchy, but the incident took place around 10 p.m. on the 9700 block of Sunland Boulevard. Apparently, the burglary was taking place when the resident walked into the home, according to the LA Times. He was pistol whipped and tied up. When another resident, who also happened to be the man's employee, tried to help him, he was shot dead.

Man Shoots Burglar in the Cheek

Break into this Mar Vista man's car and you just might get shot. When three men were burglarizing his car early Sunday morning, he didn't call police, he stuff a pistol in his pants and confronted them. That led to a fight and one of the hamburglars getting shot in the cheek. The 23-year-old is now in the hospital in stable condition and the resident was released after the LAPD deemed the shooting as self defense, according to the Daily Breeze.

Luis Javier Fernandez-Garcia has given new meaning to the term "panty raid." The 30-year-old man was caught burglarizing a young woman's apartment in Pasadena in the wee hours of Saturday morning when she arrived home with a male companion, LA Now reports. Fernandez-Garcia fled on foot; when he was caught and handed over to Pasadena Police, they discovered he was wearing the young woman's lingerie, which he had stolen from her bedroom. According to the authorities, the skivvies were the only items stolen from the apartment on Garfield Avenue. "This is not your normal type of burglary," remarked an officer.

Leader of 'Hillside Burglars' Arrested

After a three-year investigation into a crew of savvy burglars that robbed wealthy homes, the suspected leader, Troy Corsby Thomas, was arrested Saturday and pleaded not guilty to two residential burglary charges yesterday in court. The 'Hillside Burglars' have struck over 150 homes in the Holmby Hills, Bel Air, Bevelry Hills, Sherman Oaks and Encino, successfully evading security systems and cameras except once. LAPD will be holding a press conference later today to disclose more details, but the LA Times found that DNA evidence left at a scene and a dumped safe in a canyon helped lead to Thomas' arrest.

A robbery at Paris Hilton's Sherman Oaks home left the heiress $2 million less in jewelry and other items early this morning. Anonymous LAPD sources told the LA Times "the burglar or burglars got into the house through an unlocked door." Paris wasn't home at the time of the crime, but security video apparently caught a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and gloves inside the home (he reportedly ransacked her bedroom). There have been over 70 homes robbed in the hills--some of them owned by famous names--over the past year, but police do not believe this was connected at this time.

The OC Sheriff's are on the hunt for the 250 pounds of explosives that were swiped from a locked container in the remote Blackstar Canyon early last week. According to abc7.com, "the explosives had been stored for years in harsh conditions and are unstable," and authorities are warning the public that they pose a serious danger to anyone who goes near them. The Sheriff's Department are asking that the thief or thieves get in touch with them so that the blasting powder and other explosive material can be disposed of properly.

Two young men suspected of around 75 vehicles burglaries throughout the LAPD's Wilshire Division were caught Friday after a citizen perused suspects he witnessed breaking into his vehicle (911 operators will tell you not to chase suspects). An LAPD helicopter spotted the vehicle and followed it until LAPD patrol units caught up and the two, 22-year-old Ricardo Celio and 19-year-old Adan Bernal, were eventually caught.

Who knew? The Westside home invasion serial burglar who was caught last week had a name. In a notice about a press conference later today, they refer to the man as the "Silverware Bandit." During the investigation, Detective Jason De La Cova told us there were certain details they were not releasing to the public. This must have been one of them. Even media relations had know idea until last night. More details will come out today regarding this elusive bandit who may have struck at least 15 homes since May.

The Santa Monica Police Department and LAPD are saying they have a suspect in custody who may be responsible for a series of home invasions of elderly women on the Westside. If all are the cases are truly connected, fifteen reported incidents, mostly within Los Angeles city limits, were committed between May and August (see a map here). The suspect was arrested in Santa Monica on Friday around 3:00 a.m. while preparing to strike again, according to the LA Times.

David Markland of LA Metblogs posted this above video from a surveillance camera at the his apartment building in Hollywood. A man dressed up as a construction worker walks up to a bike, cuts the bolt of the lock and steals it shortly after 8:00 a.m. last week Tuesday.

"It is imperative to know that when purchasing items on-line, if the price seems too good to be true, then it probably is too good and is possibly a stolen item," said an e-mail sent out this weekend by the LAPD announcing a press conference regarding hundreds of stolen tires and rims from newer model Mercedes Benz and BMWs.

A home invasion early Friday morning in Santa Monica could be the latest in a series of home invasions and burglaries with elderly female victims on the Westside since early May. Friday's incident took place on 1200 Ashland Ave. around 2:45 a.m. The septuagenarian woman who was at home at the time was not injured, but jewelry and other valuables were stolen, according to the LA Times.

Since May 31, there have been a total of seven burglaries in West LA. All victims have been elderly woman, all have been robbed and fortunately, no one has been hurt.

No, it was not Tom. MySpace founder Brad Greenspan's $2.9 million home was discovered burglarized on Saturday. Police say it may be related to all the recent cat burglaries in the Hollywood Hills. Greenspan's home is located at 2177 Sunset Plaza Drive.
