Brawl at the Mall

Tough night in Torrance: Thing got hectic in one part of the popular Del Amo Fashion Center last night. According to the Daily Breeze, "Mallgoers were evacuated Saturday evening from the entertainment wing of the [mall]. A police helicopter and police units from Torrance, El Segundo, Gardena and Redondo Beach responded. The cause of the brawl is being investigated. Details are pending." The big draw to the mall is not necessarily its shopping options, but its "outdoor entertainment promenade featuring an 18 screen AMC Movie Theatre plus 9 restaurants," and the Lucky Strike Lanes. They dubbed it the "Lifestyle" area when it opened in September 2006, and CurbedLA pointed out that it "has all of the accoutrements of a modern shopping experience: 'inviting' outdoor walkways, 'upscale' retailers, and a 'unique experience.'" We're tempted to concur with their tongue-in-cheek emphasis; it is just a mall, after all...and a great place for an "inviting," "upscale," and "unique," brawl, apparently.

Tacos can be exciting stuff, but for one Westminster taco stand things got a little too heated yesterday when a brawl involving about a dozen people erupted outside. The incident took place at Alerto's Mexican Restaurant just before one in the morning, when apparently "a man pulled a gun as one group [of customers] was leaving in their vehicle." According to the officers on scene, "Benjamin Nguyen, 19, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Tu Huynh, 21, was shot in the leg," and both were taken to Fountain Valley Hospital. The fight and shooting are under investigation.

New footage has been released of one of the weekend's brawls at Paradise Cove in Malibu, this one shot by a mother who was there with her son. This particular scene proves some of the beach goers were acting just as bad as the paparazzi.

Two brawls between surfers and paparazzi over the weekend are leading Malibu officials to look more closely into the law regarding 1st amendment rights. "The city of Malibu will do all it legally can to protect and preserve the natural beauty and tranquillity of our town," Malibu Mayor Pamela Conley Ulich said in a statement, per the LA Times.

"The Lakers just stunk. They trailed by as much as 24 points in the fourth quarter but managed to get within four points in the final seconds of the game," said LAist Sports Editor Jimmy Bramlett in LAst Night's Action.
