BP Motors Away From The L.A. Gasoline Business
BP is set to take its curtain call in Los Angeles as part of a widespread overhaul in the toxic wake of last year's Gulf of Mexico spill. The oil giant announced on Tuesday its intention to sell a huge, 630-acre Carson refinery south of downtown and its local Arco gasoline operations. It will also be selling its Texas City, Texas operation.
BP 'Pays' for the Gulf While Getting $308 Million in Federal Grants
Some question what President Obama meant when he said BP was going to “pay” for the tragedy in the Gulf considering BP is currently receiving around $308 million in federal grants to build a power plant in Southern California.
Oil Stops Spewing Into Gulf for First Time Since April
BP successfully stopped the gushing oil well from gushing just now, choking off the flow of oil into the Gulf of Mexico for the first time since April. About goddamn time, people. This is all part of an on-going test of the new "capping stack" that was put in place over the last few days, and which has been slowing the flow of oil one valve at a time, so as to avoid causing another leak busting out elsewhere.
Who's Watching the Oil Industry in Los Angeles?
The legendary oil spill disaster in the Gulf Coast this April had people all over the world wondering what went wrong. As executives from the three companies responsible for the oil-spewing rig in the Gulf of Mexico testified before congress yesterday -- essentially, they all blamed each other for the mess -- a group of protestors took to BP's fancy, curvaceous and company-touted "green" Arco gas station at Olympic and Robertson.
Fancy, Eco Gas Station Changes to Arco, but Still More Expensive
The poshest gas station in Los Angeles--directly abut the Beverly Hills border at Olympic and Robertson--just recently changed its branding from BP to the company-owned and consumer friendly ARCO. Usually, the brand is cheaper or seems so without the 45-cent charge to use a card. But that's clearly not the case here. Catty-corner in Beverly Hills, the listed prices are same, sans credit charge.
Gas is High, Why?
Now here's something par for the course: President Bush blames congress for the high price of gas.
