First we had Whitey Bulger, and now it looks like another fugitive from Boston may be on the lam here in Los Angeles. CBS Los Angeles reports that John Joseph Hartin, 42, has been on the run ever since being charged in 1993 with the statutory rape of two young boys in the Boston area. At the time, he worked as a security guard and weighed about 200 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Comedian Bill Burr Gives Us a Tour of Boston
Comedian and L.A. resident Bill Burr gives us a two-part tour of his old hometown of Boston. Readers complained about Burr's attitude about L.A., but you'll see that he holds nothing back when talking about the town where he got his start.
Boston Globe Outs Woman Who Turned in Whitey Bulger
Privacy, shmivacy -- the Boston Globe has outed the woman who turned in Whitey Bulger and his longtime partner, Catherine Greig. Her name is Anna Bjornsdottir, and she's a former actress and Miss Iceland who also lived in the Princess Eugenia apartment complex in Santa Monica, where Bulger and Grieg shared a unit for 15 years.

Eastbound and Down: Nearly All Flights to Northeast Cancelled
We may be 3,000 miles away from the apocalyptic events that are bombarding the Northeast (now some experts thing that in addition to earthquakes and hurricanes, tornadoes may make their way through the area), but we're not wholly unaffected: most flights heading east have been cancelled because of Hurricane Irene, reports CBS News. Air traffic control has been suspended as of 10:00 p.m. GMT last night at five airports in the New York area, including JFK and LaGuardia, and Logan International Airport in Boston is reporting numerous cancellations.
Bumpy Ride: Plane Makes Two Emergency Stops from Boston to LAX
Here is an example of air travel going awry. According to KNBC, an American Airlines flight going from Boston to Los Angeles made not one, but two emergency landings in the course of its westward trajectory. The first stop was at the Louisville International Airport in Kentucky, after a female passenger suffered a medical emergency.

James "Whitey" Bulger Vs. Jack Nicholson's Frank Costello
James "Whitey" Bulger, notorious Boston mob boss, was arrested yesterday in Santa Monica. This ends not only 16 years of searching for the infamous criminal, but the possibility that Bulger would go down in an even remotely similar fashion as his onscreen doppelganger, Frank Costello, played by Jack Nicholson in "The Departed," or as we like to call it, "The Depahted." Read on for some other similarities and dissimilarities between fact and fiction...
Whitey Bulger, One of FBI's 10 Most Wanted, Arrested in Santa Monica
One of the FBI's 10 Most Wanted fugitives has been alive and living in a Santa Monica apartment. Now James J. "Whitey" Bulger, 81, and his ladyfriend, Catherine Greig, 60, have been arrested. A recent publicity campaign run in Boston produced a tip which led agents to Santa Monica where they located both Bulger and Greig at a residence Wednesday evening.
Lessons From Vancouver: The Wall of Love
Here's the thing about being an Angeleno born in Vancouver playing host to relatives visiting from Vancouver the week the Canucks lost the NHL Stanley Cup to the Boston Bruins and a bunch of trashy losers rioted in the streets of one of the world's most beautiful cities: It's upsetting. Really upsetting. Today's video lunch is an attempt to counter the ugliness with something inspiring.
East Coast Snow Keeps Flights Grounded at LAX
Our warming trend isn't immune to an impact from East Coast blizzards today, as a few airlines servicing Los Angeles International Airport have had to cancel or delay flights to destinations on the other side of the country where the snow has descended in full force.
Airports affected include New York's Kennedy, New Jersey's Newark and Boston's Logan, according to CBS2.
Chief Beck Makes Lakers Championship Wager
Oh, gosh, it's not just Mayor Villaraigosa doing these?! A friendly wager between the two top cops of Boston and Los Angeles could mean an extra officer on L.A. streets for a night. The gentleman's bet between LAPD Chief Charlie Beck and Boston Police Commissioner Edward F. Davis will have one from the losing team's city travel to their city on vacation time and do a patrol shift. “I’m not sure where I would have Commissioner Davis work, maybe Hollywood," Beck said. Either way, Beck and Davis promise they'd eat well on the visit. If LAist Sports Editor Jimmy Brammlett is correct in his prediction -- " I just don’t see how the Lakers will get it done" -- Beck will soon be in Boston.
Movie Review: 'Shutter Island'
Shutter Island is a sign that the Martin Scorsese/Leonardo DiCaprio collaboration should end. It was with much anticipation that we attended an advance screening of the movie a few days ago and it was with much disappointment we left the theater. We haven't seen a film as confused as this in quite some time. Yes, the plot about a US Marshall, played by DiCaprio, investigating the disappearance of a patient/inmate at an island-bound mental hospital ("for the criminally insane" - repeated inanely) in the 1950s, is convoluted and complicated, but it's the actual film that feels confused.
ESPN Throws LA Under the Bus
Sometimes I wish I had a job at ESPN. This wish stems from the hope of saving something I love. I grew up with ESPN. I watched it evolve from amateur hour. Remember Charlie Steiner being a Sportscenter host long before calling games for the Yankees and Dodgers? Remember how he’d spontaneously burst into uncontrollable laughter sometimes like Adam Sandler did during SNL skits with Chris Farley?
Some Charges Against Shepard Fairey Dropped
Remember back in February when local artist Shepard Fairey was arrested in Boston for allegedly sticker slapping and postering in Boston? Well, this week, 13 charges were dropped, but he still faces more from a September 16th, 2000 incident in which he did not appear for his arraignment the next day. "We're happy that those cases have been dismissed and we're looking forward to others being dismissed as well that rely on the same set of facts that these did," Fairey's lawyer said, noting "that the evidence against Fairey included commercially available stickers featuring images of his work which could have been posted by anybody," explained the Boston Globe.
Weekend Highlight: Comedian Bill Burr at the Hollywood Improv
Last year comedian Bill Burr released his fantastic one hour special, "Why Do I Do This?" (read/listen to our interview with him) and after extensively touring the country he's coming to LA this weekend: Friday and Saturday night at the Hollywood Improv.
The Dropkick Murphys @ The Hollywood Palladium 2/20/09
The dress code for a punk show has not changed in about thirty years. It is also a very simple one to follow: when in doubt, wear black. Black pants, black shirt, black shoes, black hair, black eyeliner, and a black tongue ring and you're good to go. With the exception of a Dropkick Murphys show in which case green is the new black. The Hollywood Palladium was lit up in green lights which reflected off the Murphy fans' Celtics jerseys fans with a sort of ominous glow. Almost everyone in the place was wearing Boston regalia, be it Celtics jerseys, Red Sox caps, Patriots jackets, and the occasional Bruins jersey. And why not? This was after all the Dropkick Murphys All Roads Lead to Boston tour.
Shepard Fairey Arrested in Boston
Boston police arrested LA-based artist Shepard Fairey yesterday on outstanding warrants alleging the famous Obama "Hope" poster artist "tagged property with graffiti," according to the Huffington Post. "Fairey was in Boston on Friday for his new exhibit at the Institute of Contemporary Art." The artist has also found himself swirled in controversy of late regarding the Associated Press' allegation that he violated copyright laws by using one of their photos as the basis for his red, white, and blue colored Obama images that were used prominently in the now-President's campaign. Per LAist sister-site Bostonist, Fairey was arrested "on his way to play a DJ set" at the museum where his exhibit is being held.

CD Review: Aaron Karo - 'Just Go Talk to Her'
"Karo, what the fuck are you doing? There's a code, bro."
Fallen Angels on the Brink of Elimination
It was my understanding that the team that wins a division is also supposed to be the same team that reports to work during the playoffs, not its evil and less talented twin (no offense to Minnesota). The Angels came into Friday night's game down 1-0 and in need of a win before hopping a plane out to Beantown for Sunday's possible series ending game. With the best record in the regular season behind them and $124 million on the field in red and white, a win at home was crucial. Unfortunately for Angels fans, we've witnessed the film version of a long running and critically acclaimed TV show these last two games, The Simpsons Movie of baseball, if you will.
Angels Need a Little Hell Fire
It’s not that the Angels lacked offense in Game 1 Wednesday night in Anaheim, but like me at the end of every high school dance, they just couldn’t score. The Halos had 9 hits to Boston’s 8. However, their traditional small ball way of playing the game is not going to work against these guys…again. Hey, that’s why they went out and bagged Texiera from the Braves so they wouldn’t find themselves down a game, played at home, after finishing the season with the best record in baseball. But that was then, and this is October. Maybe someone should tell Vladimir Guerrero.
What are the Odds of a 'Freeway' World Series?
Could it actually happen? A spokesman for BetOnline.com e-mailed over saying he has calculated the odds: "With the Dodgers two wins away from a trip to the NLCS, and the Angels in a 1-0 hole... [the] odds on a possible Dodgers-Angels 'Freeway' World Series," are 7-to-1, he explained. "Not to be left out, a Cubs-White Sox 'Red Line' World Series is currently at 9-to-1." If that happens, can Mayor V and the Anaheim Mayor make a bet? If the Dodgers win, Anaheim can't use "Los Angeles" in their team name anymore. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. pfffft.
