Hands and The Goldberg Sisters Take Over the Bootleg Theater Tonight
Adam Goldberg is best known as an actor in the war epic Saving Private Ryan--or, going back a bit farther, for his role as a bumbling yet endearing nerd in Dazed and Confused. Goldberg is a self-proclaimed man of all trades, including a purveyor of fine meats, and most recently embarked on the musical venture The Goldberg Sisters. The band appears tonight at the Bootleg Theater as part of a musical lineup that dares you to “put your money where you mouth is.”
Alexi Murdoch @ The Bootleg, 2/26/11
It was downright cold—ok freezing—on Saturday night, so much so that that even singer-songwriter Alexi Murdoch made mention of it from the stage during the first of two sold-out shows at the Bootleg Theater. He asked, "Can someone turn off the air-conditioning?" a few times during his 75-minute set. Murdoch was positioned right under a vent, and his old Gibson guitar was having trouble staying in tune.

Performance Review: Method Contemporary Dance
One of the big things that choreographer Bradley Michaud mentions in his company's promotional materials is his aesthetic austerity. He’s interested in the movement, the energy and the physical abandon. He’s not looking for music, text or other visuals to tell his not-a-story. At the Bootleg Theater, he and his performing collaborators in Method Contemporary Dance followed that prescription in their weekend production, See If You Still Love Us.
Danger Mouse and James Mercer Debut Broken Bells Live at The Bootleg
We were lucky to be among a few hundred people to catch Broken Bells' first-ever live performance Friday night at the Bootleg Theater in Echo Park.
Broken Bells -- if you haven't heard yet -- is a collaboration between James Mercer (of The Shins) and Brian Burton (aka Danger Mouse). Try to imagine what that might sound like and your expectations would be met and likely exceeded by the first single alone.
LAist Was There: The Living Sisters @ Bootleg Theater 02/02/10
It's not very often that local songstress supergroup The Living Sisters, comprised of Lavender Diamond's Becky Stark, Eleni Mandell, and The Bird and the Bee's Inara George, perform live, so it's little wonder that they drew a packed house on Tuesday night at the Bootleg Theater as part of Ferraby Lionheart's month-long residency. "Their sweet songs imbued with the cadences of doo-wop, classic country, and folk evoke a nostalgia for the pure and simple songs of last century," noted West Coast Sound last December, reporting that they "...have recorded an album with Vanguard Records that should be released in March."
Meet Nils Edenloff of The Rural Alberta Advantage
Nils Edenloff wrote most of The Rural Alberta Advantage's stunning debut album Hometowns in Toronto, homesick for his native Albertan prairie. The touching album of folk anthems was built and honed at a open mic night in 2005 at a local bar where Edenloff met drummer Paul Banwatt. The duo gradually acquired a band and headed out on the road. We spoke with Edenloff from the road yesterday mostly to find out what the devil is the advantage is of living in Alberta.
