Police have arrested a man on suspicion of plowing a green SUV into two buildings in Orange County, including a social services facility where he left a mysterious package. The Orange County Sheriff's Department received a call at approximately 7:30pm from a social services employee that a man had rammed the front glass doors of the building at 840 North Eckhoff Street with a SUV.

Vandalized Vehicle in San Pedro Puts LAPD on Tactical Alert
What was thought to have been a possible explosion set off in a parked vehicle in San Pedro this morning had the Los Angeles Police Department on a city-wide tactical alert, reports the Daily News. The bomb squad was called out to the enclosed ground-level parking garage of the Clarion Inn on S. Gaffey to inspect the damaged vehicle, while the "Harbor (110) Freeway's access to San Pedro was closed, and businesses in a two-block radius of the hotel were evacuated." Ultimately experts determined it was a case of vandalism, and not related to explosives or posing a threat to public safety.
Heavy Metal: Bomb Squad Called to Burbank Home
A Burbank neighborhood was evacuated late yesterday afternoon when deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's bomb squad were on hand to remove "what appears to have been an old military explosive" from inside a home, according to LA Now. Residents of the home on the 1100 block of Rose Street "found the heavy metal object" in the attic, which they thought belonged to the previous occupant, who neighbors say "was related to a collector of military items." A vehicle found on fire with a body inside this morning on a Studio City/Valley Village street has now turned into a bomb squad situation. Upon investigation, "some sort of wire" was found underneath the body, prompting them to call the bomb squad, according to a LAPD spokesperson. Suspicious Device Found Inside Car in Universal City
Commuters attempting to travel in the Universal City area early this morning were faced with rail and road closures due to police activity. During a routine traffic stop conducted around 3 a.m. authorities discovered what they labeled a "suspicious device" inside a Scion being driven by a motorist pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving, according to KTLA. A search uncovered the device that "appeared to be a pipe bomb" and "described as a bunch of fireworks taped together." A robot retrieved the device and the bomb squad detonated it safely. Lankershim Blvd, the 101 and area off-ramps, and the Red Line's Universal City stop were closed, but were reopened at around 7 a.m.
Pipe Bomb Near USC Was Attached to a Car
The suspicious package that shut down an area a few blocks from USC campus yesterday afternoon ended up actually being pipe bomb, reports Fox News 11. It was found attached to a woman's Jaguar vehicle at 35th Place and Normandie. A suspicious package called in this morning around 11:30 a.m. has the bomb squad currently on the scene at The Bonaventure hotel in downtown. There have been no street closures around the hotel, which is on Figueroa between 4th and 5th, at this time, according to the LAPD. It should emphasized that this is not a bomb scare or threat. Rather, a package left unattended was found to be suspicious. UPDATE, 3:10 p.m.: The bomb squad still at the location, but there are no street closures or evacuations. "It's still an investigation at this point," Officer Sara Faden said. UPDATE, 5:50 p.m.: As of 5:25 p.m., no explosives or bombs were found. Situation is over.
SWAT Responding to Police Standoff in Westwood
Since this morning, police have been in a standoff with a pursuit suspect wanted on a warrant, reportedly over threats to the White House and possibly other charges. The chase began in Westchester around 10 a.m., heading north on the 405 freeway before entering the Westwood neighborhood when the car entered the driveway of the Federal Building at Wilshire and Veteran. Once there, police blocked him in and he has been refusing to leave the car since Veteran Avenue is closed down near Wilshire and a nearby apartment building was evacuated as a precautionary measure. The bomb squad was called out earlier and at 1:45 p.m., the SWAT Team from downtown was deployed to the scene, according to the LAPD. An armored personal vehicle, which is used when a suspect may have heavier weaponry, was also deployed to the front of the car. UPDATE, 5 p.m.: Standoff still ongoing, suspect possibly identified. UPDATE, 7:45 p.m.: The suspect has been arrested.
Noisy Unattended Luggage Prompts LAX Evacuation
Another day, another suspicious package. Unattended luggage caused officials to evacuate a portion of LAX this morning. Shortly after 11 a.m., the bag sitting next to a Tom Bradley Int'l Terminal ticketing counter and bearing no name tags began emitting an alarm-type sound. Airport police cleared the area, moving about 500 travelers and employees into the streets. The LAPD bomb squad arrived and via an X-Ray machine, determined the sound was coming from a megaphone. 50 minutes later, operations were back to normal. LAX officials say there's a good lesson here: make sure all your bags, including carry-ons, are tagged with your name and info. Whoever's bag this was will likely never see it again.
Suspicious Package Found Over 101 Fwy
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Bomb Squad is en route to an overpass at Valley Circle Blvd. and the 101 Freeway in Calabasas at the Los Angeles city border. A suspicious package found on an overpass was alerted to officials. The California Highway Patrol is considering closing all lanes of the freeway on both sides pending the opinion of the bomb squad, according to Heather Hoglund of the CHP over the phone.
Why Was Hollywood & Highland's Parking Lot Closed Last Night?
Because an ex-convict told police there were weapons in his car after he was arrested for having a gun, which he accidentally left inside his jacket at a sushi restaurant at Hollywood & Highland. The bomb squad was deployed, but after a search, the scene was cleared. Earlier in the evening, the restaurant called police when they found his jacket with the gun in it. Officers were waiting when he came back to pick up the jacket. He was arrested and that's when he triggered the investigation inside the parking garage.
