If you were planning to take a trip to Tempe, AZ in October for the SoCo Music Experience, cancel those plans or find something else to do. In a statement released today, Southern Comfort "announced that the SoCo Music Experience scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 18 at Phoenix Municipal Stadium has been cancelled due to an unexpected escalation in production costs. At this time, there are no plans to reschedule the event this year." The "Experience" tour will hit San Diego on Saturday, August 23 with the Black Keys and Common as the headliners. That same weekend is Sunset Junction where the Black Keys will headline on Sunday, August 24.

Bjork from last night's performance at Coachella
To continue to get you excited about Coachella, LAist is bringing you some banging live performances from bands that are on our "must see" list. Now we used to really be into house and trance and back in those days remember being in LOVE with Tiesto and his style. He can make you forget time, which could be dangerous considering he's the last act of the night. We will be very torn between the...
A few interesting things happened today as the White Stripes announced that they have finished their new record Icky Thump (those things just seem to ease right out of Jack White's mind, dont they?). The first was the Stripes, who should know better, announced their news on their website that is only accessible via Flash, meaning it's impossible to cut n paste the info and pop it into an email or a web post...

A Word or 42: There's nothing funnier than watching pundits try to fill in the 7 minutes after a Presidential speech ends and before regular programming resumes. Great delivery on the speech though, it reminded me of the animatronic Lincoln I saw at Disneyland in 1977. Tonight - Thursday - January 11th, 2007 "Smallville" (the CW, 8:00 p.m.) Tori Spelling guests "My Name Is Ed"/"The Office"/"Scrubs"/"30 Rock"/"ER" (NBC, 8-11:00 p.m.) ALL NEW "Ugly Betty"...
Recently, Philadelphia’s masters of low-fi pop rock, Dr. Dog, released a limited edition EP called Takers & Leavers. The CD is a bit hard to come by in stores, being that there were only one thousand copies produced, each with varying and unique cover art. However, the CD is available to order through their website www.drdogmusic.com. Now if this is the first time you have heard of Dr. Dog I suggest you go out...
Babydaddy, Jake Shears, Ana Matronic and the rest of the Abba-esque Brit dance group Scissor Sisters are finding just as much success here in the states as they did early last month in the UK where they debuted at #1. The follow-up to 2004's eponymous freshman offerring did extremely well here in LA last week due to several factors: they headlined a sold-out show at the Shrine last Thursday, they appeared on Indie on...
Recently LA had the honor of hosting the rough and tumble stylings of indie blues gems The Black Keys. The Keys are currently working the road, preaching the good word of their new album Magic Potion. They've also recently released an EP entitled Chulahoma, which is a series of covers originally performed by Junior Kimbrough, the blues pioneer who inspired The Keys sound.

Arthur Magazine and Spaceland are bringing a whole bunch of Indie goodness to the Barnsdall Art Park on September 4th and 5th (Memorial Day Weekend). As headliners (along with Sonic Youth and Sleater-Kinney), The Black Keys point out at that there will be other "Arthurfest" events going on at the Spaceland owned venues on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd as well but that the festival lineup as it stands already is pretty damn awesome.

In celebration of a summer well spent (and hopefully, a fall to be well spent), LAist hopes our fair readers venture out tonight and enjoy the finest the city has to offer.
