LAst Night's Action: Clips Beat Kings without a Cassell

LAst Night's Action: Clips Beat Kings without a Cassell

Clippers 116, Kings 109, 2OT - Down by 17 points, it looked like Los Angeles was about to give Sacramento their first win this year against a Pacific rival. Anybody seen Sam Cassell. Two overtimes later, the Clips pulled off a wild victory and send the Kings to 0-9 in the division. LA led the entire second overtime. Al Thornton led the game with 27, Chris Kaman had 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Dan Dickau scored a season high 20. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Alone in First

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Alone in First

Lakers 111, Sonics 91 - Seattle had no chance against the surging Lake Show. Kobe was ejected in the third and it didn't matter (double technical after arguing a call -- not a huge deal). LA has won 11 of their last 13 and all but one was on the road. The Lakers got double digit contributions from seven players, led by Pau Gasol's 22. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Who Wears Short Shorts?

LAst Night's Action: Who Wears Short Shorts?

Celtics 110, Lakers 91 - Los Angeles ran into the buzzsaw that is Boston. Apparently, the first thing to get cut were their shorts. "I felt violated, I felt naked," remarked Kobe Bryant. There are so many places we could go with that. Actually, he was referring to the throwback short-sorts the team wore as a tribute to the rivalry and Jerry West, who was the honorary captain for the game. Maybe that's why Kobe was an abysmal 6-of-25. more ›

CD Review: Strung Out, "Blackhawks Over Los Angeles"

When you think of Fat Wreck Chords, you may instinctively think of such household punk acts as NOFX, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, or Less than Jake. Then there's Strung Out, who have been rocking the LA punk scene since 1992, but where's the love? more ›

LAst Night's Action: Ducks Soar Over Hawks

LAst Night's Action: Ducks Soar Over Hawks

Ducks 3, Blackhawks 1 - Tied for last (actually behind the Kings) in the West, Chicago didn't present much of a challenge for playoff-bound Anaheim. After giving up a power play late in the first, the Ducks responded with two goals by rookie Dustin Penner in the second. A third goal by George Parros put it out of reach in the third. Rockets 92, Clippers 87 - Los Angeles led Houston 87-85 with less than... more ›

LAst Night's Action: Kobe's Rise, Trojan's Fall

LAst Night's Action: Kobe's Rise, Trojan's Fall

Lakers 111, Hornets 105 - Kobe continued to flaunt has superiority in the face of March Madness, talking before the game about how honored he was to be discussed in the same "bracket" as Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, and Elgin Baylor. After the game, he moved from the final four to the championship. While Michael and Elgin scored 50+ points in three straight games, Kobe has now done it in four (65, 50, 60, 50).... more ›

LAst Night's Action: Kobe Overcomes Madness

LAst Night's Action: Kobe Overcomes Madness

Lakers 116, Blazers 111, OT - Maybe he's got a chip on his shoulder because he never played college ball and everybody's talking about March Madness. Maybe he's angry about all those NBA suspensions and the so-called witch hunt. Either way, Kobe was on fire with 65 points in the Laker's OT victory over Portland. The second highest point total in his career propelled Los Angeles to its first win in their last eight games... more ›

LAst Night's Action: Phil's Worst Day Ever?

LAst Night's Action: Phil's Worst Day Ever?

Nuggets 113, Lakers 86 - When Phil Jackson went to bed on Wednesday, he was probably looking forward to the day ahead. Things were set up nicely for a home game with Lamar Odom and Luke Walton both returning from injuries. Then his alarm clock rang. Within a few hours, the NBA dished out $100,000 in fines for his comments about a Kobe "witchhunt" and the Lakers lost for the seventh time in a row.... more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers, Kings Fall

Timberwolves 117, Lakers 107, 2OT - Kobe had 37 points in regulation but could only manage 3 in two overtime periods as Los Angeles fell to Minnesota. The star of the game was Timberwolves' center Mark Blount. Unlike most 7 foot tall dudes, he was able to rain down three pointers when it counted. With a trio of trays in the final three minutes, he helped the T-Wolves even up and send the game into... more ›
