The Black Crowes announced today that five concerts, including the ones at the Greek Theatre, The Bowl in Santa Barbara and at San Diego's Street Scene, have been canceled due to illness. "Despite our efforts, it is not possible to reschedule the canceled shows at this time. However, efforts are being made to reschedule these markets in early 2009. Fans are encouraged to obtain refunds from their original place of purchase," The Black Crowes wrote in an e-mail (posted in full here). Thank you to all who entered the contest to win tickets, we're sorry for the inconvenience. Another contest has been posted for this Sunday's My Morning Jacket show.

This Wednesday, September 17, The Black Crowes will grace Los Angeles' Greek Theatre along with G. Love & Special Sauce and Howlin' Rain (you can buy tickets here). The “Euphoria or Bust Tour” feature songs from the Crowes' first all new studio material in seven years, Warpaint.

Advertising Age is reporting on the possible end of the nightly network newscast as another 1.2 million viewers in the US stopped tuning in last year. Hey networks, instead of constantly going off on red herrings like Terri Schiavo and WMD in Iraq, how about creating a frenzy over the fact that Americans work a shitload more hours than they used to, have less time off, and generally don't have the benefits and more relaxed lifestyles available in other industrialized nations? In the '70s and '80s I remember my parents always being home from work in time to watch Walter Cronkite and our local news - as a working adult, I've literally never had the opportunity to do that. Here's a chance for the network news to shed light on what is killing their viewership by 5+% per year.

, due out March 4th, was recently negatively reviewed in everyone's favorite trucker guy bible, Maxim. This was odd, however, since apparently, no advance copies of the album were given out. As it turns out, the reviewer never heard the album at all. According to The Black Crowes' website, when the band's management complained, the review was explained by Maxim's editors thusly: "Of course, we always prefer to (sic) hearing music, but sometimes there are big albums that we don’t want to ignore that aren’t available to hear, which is what happened with the Crowes. It’s either an educated guess preview or no coverage at all, so in this case we chose the former.” Wow, an educated guess that includes specific statements like "it hasn’t left Chris Robinson and the gang much room for growth"?
