Plane Crashes Into House In Big Bear, 2 Injured

A small, twin-engine Piper Comanche plane crashed into the roof of a home in Big Bear on Sunday injuring two people. According to an FAA spokesman, the accident happened around 7:20 a.m. on Mountain View Boulevard shortly after takeoff from Big Bear Airport, says KTLA. The pilot was reportedly able "to extract himself" from the aircraft and was taken to an local hospital with unknown injuries. A person inside the house was also hurt. The incident is now under investigation by the NTSB and FAA and authorities have not yet released the names of the involved parties. The plane, according to FAA records, is reportedly registered to Tower General Contractors in Sun Valley. more ›

Main Route To Big Bear Has Collapsed

A large section of highway 330 on the way to Big Bear collapsed today leaving a massive hole in the road, reports KTLA. Heavy rain and snow over the past weeks left highways 18 and 330 closed to traffic and no injuries were reported in the collapse. According to a CalTrans, motorists headed up mountain should use highway 38. No word yet on when the highway is set to reopen; more rain is forecast to hit region on Wednesday. more ›

Big Bear Beer Heist Ends in Bust

A beer heist at a Big Bear gas station ended in a bust, with five teen snowboarders, including four from LA County, arrested for their role in the robbery, according to LA Now. "It’s a beer run that turned semi-violent,” explained a spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. One of the teen suspects punched the clerk in the face when he tried to halt the crime. The teens fled in a vehicle, but were spotted by a Sheriff's helicopter, then stopped by the California Highway Patrol. All five suspects are 18 years old. more ›

Big Bear Snowboarding Hit-and-Run Leaves Child Injured

Authorities in Big Bear are searching for the suspect in a hit-and-run incident that took place on the slopes of Bear Mountain Ski Resort and left a nine-year-old girl injured, according to cbs2. The collision took place Saturday January 2nd at approximately 1 p.m. "The suspect is described as a white male between 25-30 years old, and approximately 5'10" - 6'2" tall. He was reportedly wearing a black and white jacket, black pants and using a black snowboard." The girl was treated for "a compound fracture to her femur and several wounds to her face." Anyone who maybe able to help with locating or identifying the suspect are asked to contact the Big Bear Sheriff's Station at (909) 866-0100 or by placing an anonymous call to WE-TIP at (800) 78-CRIME. more ›
