A man drowned after attempting to swim across a reservoir in Northern California based on the belief that God was on the other side, reports CBS News. 25-year-old Victor Frasno, a resident of Florida, apparently tried to cross the lake despite the fact that he could not swim. According to CBS, Frasno's decision was likely based on predictions of the rapture made by Harold Camping.

Photos: Anti-Gay Westboro Baptist Protesters Outside the Oscars, Counter Protestors Try to Balance the Mood
Just like last year, the folks from Kansas' Westboro Baptist Church brought their version of hate to Sunset and Highland to garner attention from celebrities as limos passed by. "We are out here to broach a message and that message is this country has turned itself over to the fags and now this country's doom is inevitable," one protester said.
K.I.S.S.: Simplicity the Secret of In-N-Out's Success?
For many of us on the West Coast, we take our In-N-Out seriously. We know we love it, we know how to order off the (not-so-secret?) secret menu, we know our own favorite order. You don't have to have a reservation, or be a celeb to get the best of the best from them (although not too long ago actor Tom Hanks told the newly (re)arrived Conan O'Brien he thinks their catering truck beats the Batmobile). But--besides their sauce--what's their actual secret?
Churches to Practice Civil Disobedience on Sunday
"I'm going to talk about the un-biblical stands that Barack Obama takes. Nobody who follows the Bible can vote for him. We may not be politically correct, but we are going to be biblically correct. We are going to vote for those who follow the Bible." That's Rev. Wiley S. Drake of First Southern Baptist Church of Buena Park in the LA Times speaking about the "pulpit initiative," which has churches in California and 21 other states illegally delivering political sermons or giving endorsements to presidential candidates.

What, Jack Nicholson Was Busy?
In another example of a Chicagoan coming to LA to change something sacred comes the story of Carl Amari who is putting together a box set of cds that will contain the dramatic reading of The Bible by Hollywood actors. For some reason they can't figure out who to play Satan. The first part of the project, a 20-CD set of the New Testament for $49.95, will arrive in stores in October. Considering the...
Ted Haggard Talking About Homosexuality in "Jesus Camp"
We've got no problem with gays. We've got no problem with Christians. Hell, some of our best friends are Republicans. What we have a problem with are people with power who live gigantic lies and influence legislation that they don't really believe in. Ted Haggard would love it if gays got married, or if gays truly had equal rights. He'd love it because then it wouldn't have been so hard for him to admit...
