Man Shoots Burglar in the Cheek

Break into this Mar Vista man's car and you just might get shot. When three men were burglarizing his car early Sunday morning, he didn't call police, he stuff a pistol in his pants and confronted them. That led to a fight and one of the hamburglars getting shot in the cheek. The 23-year-old is now in the hospital in stable condition and the resident was released after the LAPD deemed the shooting as self defense, according to the Daily Breeze.

In this day and age, it boggles our mind that people are still leaving their iPods and other valuables in their cars. The Eastsider LA is reporting a rash of Echo Park BFMVs (that's police talk for Burglary from a Motor Vehicle) from "Tweeker Tom." As the LAPD says, "leave it and lose it." It's pretty simple, really, because for a bad guy, breaking into a car is fast and if they know what they're doing, silent. Even for those who park in subterranean apartment garages, you're not safe. Once inside those garages, the LAPD finds themselves with multiple cases at the same address. So believe in it like a mantra: "leave it and lose it..." or at the very least, leave it out of sight.

Two young men suspected of around 75 vehicles burglaries throughout the LAPD's Wilshire Division were caught Friday after a citizen perused suspects he witnessed breaking into his vehicle (911 operators will tell you not to chase suspects). An LAPD helicopter spotted the vehicle and followed it until LAPD patrol units caught up and the two, 22-year-old Ricardo Celio and 19-year-old Adan Bernal, were eventually caught.
