Councilman Says Most Food Truck Complaints Come from Homeowners, Not Businesses

As Councilmember Paul Koretz describes it, he's been "bombarded" with e-mails from food truck supporters after a coalition rallied supporters to contact him over his stance on the mobile eateries. "I'm not necessarily a fan, but it's not my mission to stop it," he told LAist on Friday, admitting you'll occasionally find him eating at them, namely the Canters Truck and traditional taco trucks grabbing a burrito. more ›

Speed Limit on Beverly Glen to Increase & Decrease

Speed Limit on Beverly Glen to Increase & Decrease

If you've ever driven the 2.1 mile canyon-to-valley-floor stretch of Beverly Glen Boulevard, you probably have noticed that it changes throughout, telling you to go 25 mph, now 35, oh wait, now 30. The city's Department of Transportation now wants to change the sporadic nature by splitting the baby with a uniform 30 mph from Mulholland to Moorpark in Sherman Oaks. "It will be easier for motorists to monitor their speed as well as for the police to enforce using radar," said John Fisher, Assistant General Manager of LADOT. Once an ordinance is drafted, it will be submitted to the Transportation Commission for consideration. more ›

Resident Sleuths Catch Developers in Lies

When a new development is planned and traffic impact studies are needed, the developer hires the consultant, not the City. So you can see how residents are wary if the developer is in cahoots with the consultant to downplay results in favor of the development. And right some where:In Sherman Oaks, the local homeowners group was following a proposed 89-condo and 16,000-square-foot mixed-use project on Ventura Boulevard. The developer agreed to update an old... more ›

Photo of the Day: Not a Good Parking Spot After All

Photo of the Day: Not a Good Parking Spot After All

We caught sight of this unfortunate scene at the corner of Lankershim Boulevard and Bloomfield in North Hollywood just a few minutes ago. In typical "breaking news" fashion, several news vans were already there, prepping their reports. We just had our lousy camera phone. Obvious news of the day: It's freakin' windy out! While we do feel badly for the person whose car got a little too close and personal with that fallen tree,... more ›

Drive to get Free Gas this morning in Century City

To promote their new series "Drive", Fox is giving away free gasoline at the Unocal 76 at the corner of Beverly Glen and Santa Monica Blvd. near the mall in Century City. Don't get fooled by the old Google satellite image that shows SM Blvd. before they improved the roads. This is the 76 across the street from the Walgreens (formerly the charming Santa Glen Market) and two blocks away from the McDonald's. LAist... more ›

It's 9:30 p.m. and You Are in the Valley...

How do you get over the hill expeditiously? Last night we walked our talk, as we often do, and headed over to Firecracker in Chinatown after a few early drinks at The Sapphire on Ventura Blvd. When the time came to drive over the hill, two routes to Chinatown were obvious: 101 all the way or take 4 different freeways. Not only is it fun to say, but the 101 to the 134 to... more ›

Westwood Doesn't Suck

Westwood Doesn't Suck

by Ericka Lozano Okay, Elina, I'll take the bait and defend my beloved Westwood, even if no one else will. I have to say that to bash a whole neighborhood because you got stuck in a parking garage overnight when you didn't read the signs (!!!) seems like you overreacted. I lived in Westwood for four years, and worked at UCLA almost the whole time. I still serve on the board of the Westwood... more ›
