We're pretty pleased that we scored 7 out of 8 of our TV picks for yesterday's Screen Actors Guild Awards. The only TV win we missed was Betty White's for "Hot In Cleveland" which even she wasn't expecting. We love Betty White, we enjoyed interviewing her at last year's SAG Awards, but this award was a mistake and it doesn't reflect well on the organization. more ›

Watch Your Toesies: Komodo Dragons Hatched at LA Zoo

The first of 22 Komodos hatched at the Los Angeles Zoo on August 8th. According to the zoo's press release, "Less than 10 zoos in North America have been able to breed Komodos; this marks the L.A. Wearing White: Betty White's Clothing Line Debuts Next Month

What can't Betty White do? The last Golden Girl standing is still going strong at 88. She's following up a record-setting appearance on SNL with a new series, and now she's "launching her own line of T-shirts and hoodies that will hit stores in August," says WWD. White is working with Van Nuys-based Jerry Leigh apparel to produce a line of t-shirts and hoodies that boast her image in a variety of artistic renderings. Forget White's senior citizenship--the hoodies are as plugged-in as you can get. They "feature washable earbuds and a jack to plug into iPods and MP3 players." A portion of the sales will benefit White's pet cause, the Morris Animal Foundation. more ›

TV Junkie: Betty on 'Community'; TCM's War and Westerns Collections

TV on DVD: More like "movies on TV on DVD", we are of course, referring to TCM's ever expanding "Greatest Classic Films Collection" which now includes "Westerns" and "War". These collections include trailers and other promotional clips and sometimes commentary for each movie - "Westerns" includes The Stalking Moon (1968 with Gregory Peck, Eva Marie Saint, Robert Forster), Ride the High Country (1962, directed by Sam Peckinpah, with Randolph Scott, Joel McCrea, Mariette Hartley), Pat Garrett and BIlly the Kid (1973, directed by Sam Peckinpah, with James Coburn, Kris Kristofferson) and Chisum (1970, with John Wayne, Forrest Tucker, Christopher George) and it's a worthy collection, particularly if you are a Sam Peckinpah fan as there is commentary by a couple of his biographers, and pretty affordable at around $25. more ›

TV Junkie: 'This Old House' Coming to LA; Gandolfini Back to HBO?

TV Junkie: 'This Old House' Coming to LA; Gandolfini Back to HBO?

Are you a homeowner with a "historic" home in the LA area with a renovation project? For the first time ever, Emmy Award-winning television series "This Old House" is looking for a historic home to renovate in Los Angeles County. The project's scope must be "just right" - not a whole house, but more than just a kitchen. The renovation must be able to be completed in about five or six months, with construction potentially beginning as early as August 2010 and finishing by January 2011. The ideal project should already have architectural plans and/or have the ability to be "fast-tracked" to the building phase. The selected project will be featured on multiple episodes airing on PBS in early 2011. more ›

"Lost" Spoiler Alert: We could write about "Lost" all day, every day and not come close to the amount of theories the uber-pundit megafans seem to spew 24/7 so we won't even try to compete but last night can't pass without us saying something about it: holy shit. Is it good news or not that the "Lost" series finale will now run from 9-11:30pm on May 23rd? Does this extension mean that we will "lose" everyone? more ›

Naked Weenie-Lovin' Betty White Helps Launch CityWalk Pink's

Naked Weenie-Lovin' Betty White Helps Launch CityWalk Pink's

You didn't think we meant that actress and animal advocate Betty White herself got naked, did you? It's her hot dogs that 88-year-old White likes to keep to a bare-bun minimum, which is how the "Betty `Naked' in the City' Hot Dog" came to be at the new Pink's at Universal CityWalk. White was on hand to participate in both the launch of her namesake hot dog and the new outpost of the long-time beloved hot dog-ery. Said White of her love of a plain hot dog: "The weenie is so good, I have the weenie and the bun, and so they said, `Well, it's a naked hot dog,'" reports KTLA. The CityWalk Pink's is the first Valley location of the hot dog stand. more ›

It will be called the "Betty 'Naked in the City' Hot Dog" and a portion of its sales "will go to support the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services' animal shelters," explains cbs2. DVD Tuesday, uh, Wednesday!

It was good to see Sam Raimi dipping his toes into the horror pool again with Drag Me to Hell. Even better to see the great Alison Lohman headlining a film. She's had me since White Oleander and secured my eternal loyalty by stealing Matchstick Men. I'm glad that Sandra Bullock's career hasn't gone south like, say, Meg Ryan's, but I still ain't gonna watch The Proposal. One of the summer's biggest flops was Land of the Lost, and yet I still laughed quite a bit when I saw it. Such is the allure of Will Ferrell: he either works for you and you don't care or you don't care. If you haven't acquainted yourself with the films of Atom Egoyan, start acquainting! Adoration isn't up to the level of Where the Truth Lies or Exotica, but it's worth your time. more ›

TV Junkie: National College Football Champtionship; Colbert & Stewart Back From Vacation

A Word or 39-ish: So whadyathinkof "the Apprentice: LA"? Was it LA-flavored enough for you or did it perpetuate the idiotic stereotypes all over again? It might have been better if they had manage to quarantine that thing to the East coast.
