The 10 Best Burgers in Los Angeles: 2011 Edition

The 10 Best Burgers in Los Angeles: 2011 Edition

Last year, LAist did it. We took a stand. When other sites were making ‘feel good lists’ that gave everybody gold stars just for entering the race, we stood up and said, ‘No’. HERE are the best burgers in Los Angeles. And now, we’re about to do it again. more ›

Juicy Burger: Formidable! But is it LA's Best Between Buns?

Just a block from the intersection of Hollywood and Vine, Juicy Burger doesn’t particularly stand out save for the banner touting that it was voted “Best Burger in L.A. - 2010 by Citysearch.” This is no small feat in the city that is arguably the world’s burger mecca. So the bar is set high. Can a burger live up to claims of “Best Burger”? Yes…and no…and yes. more ›

Map: The Best Burgers in L.A.

How has your National Hamburger Month celebration been going? You could check out some bunned offerings from newer kids on the burger block like The Slaw Dogs or the Patty Wagon. Or maybe just stick to the old reliable, like In-N-Out, or one of our favorites (25 Degrees, Golden State, or one of the 10 spots we declared the Best in L.A.). more ›

Eye Nosh: Pub Burger at Village Idiot

Eye Nosh: Pub Burger at Village Idiot

Though it did not make Farley Elliott's "official" list, we satisfied our burger craving today at Village Idiot. This is their Pub Burger with gruyere cheese and balsamic onion relish. We ordered it medium and it came out just right: juicy and delicious.

Make It Official: The Best Burger in LA

Make It Official: The Best Burger in LA

Before we really begin (but after you’ve already become enraged by the headline), let me say this: different people like different things. Toppings, bun, cooking method, texture, ingredients, ratios - all play a factor in determining the best burger in any given area. And to be sure, this single post won’t put the ‘Best Burger In Los Angeles’ debate to rest for you (even though our pick is absolutely correct) so don’t worry about being wrong when you criticize the list below. Who knows, maybe you get a real kick out of being wrong. Like we said, different people like different things. more ›

Eye Nosh: Cube's Burger...One of the Best in Town?

We are still doggedly in pursuit of finding the best burger in town (although sometimes it helps if we break it down by region) and recently we tucked into this tempting meat, cheese, toppings, and bun combo from Cube and found it's definitely in contention for a top spot on the list. more ›

Eye Nosh: Yuca's for a Cheesburger & a Taco

Eye Nosh: Yuca's for a Cheesburger & a Taco

Burger devotees in Los Angeles will never tire of touting their favorite go-to joint for the all-American meat-and-bun dish, and some make finding the best a life-long (and noble pursuit). LAist Featured Photos pool member oranges are not the only fruit recently submitted these shots of a meal at Yuca's that was mostly about the burger. On their blog, What You See is What You Eat, the story of the meal is told:

The cheeseburger here isn’t Pete’s, it isn’t Father’s Office, it isn’t even In-N-Out. It’s not trying for this. Consistent with the pure nature of its tacos and burritos, the burgers here don’t try to distract you with fancy trimmings - no aiolis, no grilled onions. Nope, their cheeseburgers harks back to that wonderful time when you were at the transition stage between the Happy Meal and Big Mac — a simple cheeseburger without the distraction of a cheap toy or a patty sitting on the second story. This is, simply: bun, ketchup + mustard, lettuce, tomato, patty, bun. Simply. The only thing that differentiates this burger from the one that you’d make on your grill is that your grill doesn’t have decades worth of well seasoned and well worn flavors of asada, carnitas, etc seared into it. Yuca’s cooks the patty on the same surface that they’re making all the other meat fillings, so you get a patty that is the best of all animal kingdoms. You can eat this in all of 2 minutes, but at ~$2, it’s exactly right for what you get. And, with a taco or two, just hits the spot.

The Latest Dish on the "Best" Eats in LA

The Latest Dish on the "Best" Eats in LA

Well, it's another month in magazine publishing, so it's another month's list from the folks at Los Angeles Magazine. This time, like they do every year, they're apprising their readership of their picks for the "Best" in LA. We've noticed over the years that there's no particular method to their madness, just for them to make mention of 101 things that have struck their fancy this year in this city. In looking at their food and drink selections, we're frankly not surprised. They invoke a handful of the currently most dished about spots for dining in town; places they've name-dropped as recently as last month's "Cheap Eats" feature, like KP'S Deli, and places we've talked about, like The Farm of Beverly Hills (renowned here for their brownies), and The Border Grill (amazingly, for a non-alcoholic cocktail, the Minty Lime Cooler). We noticed a heavy favoritism towards restaurants in the Beverly Hills and adjacent areas, with only the ethnic entries coming from elsewhere around town (Middle Eastern at Mandaloun in Glendale, Tamales at Tamales Liliana in Boyle Heights). Naturally the inclusion of a "Small Plates" category was to hail the popular A.O.C., and we're also basking in the obviousness of the "Best Chowder" choice of downtown's Water Grill, highly reputed for their seafood. Some, like us, may balk at their assertion that Canter's Deli serves the best waffles, that the higher end Jar is the spot for french fries, and that a Curry House in Little Tokyo is the best spot for kids. So what was missing? We wish they'd settle our "Best Burger" debate, and also offer us insight on eats near and dear to us, like cupcakes (no mention, despite frequent foodie talk on the topic), ice cream, group dining, happy hour, and sushi. While we know that LA Mag's LA is not our LA, or that there's no such thing as one LA, but we sure wish they would up and surprise us. more ›

You Give Us the Beef: Best Burger in LA?

In-n-Out is the obvious choice for number one. It's a tradition, it's a legend, it's a SoCal staple. We like that they have a secret menu, that they were the first to offer a burger "protein style" and that from what we hear, they treat their employees well. We like what comes with the burger, too--creamy milkshakes and tasty french fries. The Double Double is one of our favorite burgers, hands down. more ›
