Whether you listen to classical music or not, we all know this famous music quotation: Da da da DUM! And when you hear it played by an orchestra, you're listening to it in the key of C-Minor. Does that matter? Why not some other key? Those questions and many others will be answered in an upcoming Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra's concert where music director Jeffrey Kahane and the orchestra will lead the audience on a "guided tour" of the inner workings of Beethoven's 5th Symphony before performing it in full during the second half of the program.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presents “Infinite Animation: The Work of Adam Beckett” tonight at 8 pm at the Linwood Dunn Theater. Beckett (1950-1979) was an animator and visual effects artist whose career straddled the line between art film and the special effects industry. He worked on big budget films like Star Wars and Piranha, but he’s more remembered for his experimental art films.

The greatest generation not only saved the World from the tyranny of the Nazis, they also helped saved many of the World's most treasured works of art. The Rape of Europa chronicles the stories behind the massive theft of said works by the Third Reich and their subsequent recovery by the Allied Forces. A must see for World War II or art historians. Screening begins at 7 PM at the Linwood Dunn Theater in Hollywood and best of all, it is free.

This week’s classical pick doesn’t really have anything to do with erotica, unless you reason that Beethoven’s "Eroica" Symphony ushered in the Romantic Era of classical music, which was said to have encouraged intimate and passionate (erotic?) feelings inside the listener. Anyways, the Los Angeles Philharmonic is performing this heroic third symphony (Eroica means heroic in Italian) and continue the year long celebration of Messiaen.
