"My friend just called me from Beverly Hills and said that Barney's, Saks Fifth Ave and a few other high end stores are giving away full size bottles of expensive products due to a lawsuit against the makers of the products for over-charging customers. They walked away with full size bottles of Chanel, Armani and Clinique products! You don't have to buy anything to get the free stuff." LA shopping blog Blackburn and Sweetzer confirms this, finding that the lines on Monday--the first day of the free giveaways--were crazy. Expensive beauty products or a cup of free coffee, people just go nuts.

       

With mini spa treatments galore, sweets to your heart's content and a swank downtown Los Angeles loft setting, who wouldn't enjoy being a girl at the Pamper Yourself Fabulous event last week? We were lucky enough to be one of the 100+ attendees at this sold-out spa day, a girls' day out unlike any other. No sample sales to stress over or wine tastings to get sloppy during, it's all about rest and relaxation here. For $165 a ticket (10% of the proceeds benefit the charity Step Up Womens Network), we were treated to our choice of three mini spa treatments (each about 15-20 minutes long) from some of the hottest L.A. spas and salons, which most likely charge a pretty penny for their regular services.

       

Now that it stays light until almost nine o'clock, nighttime has taken up its annual habit of being more playful, with balmy temperatures and the hint of summertime. But weekday doldrums can still take over, which means weeknight relaxation and indulgences are a must-have. Here's where the beautiful and historic Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa comes in. Today is Day 2 of a 2-day visit for the Green Living Expo, taking up residency in the West Hall of the LA Convention Center.

Having once been employed "Sephora-adjacent," I spent almost every lunch hour smudging, applying, testing, and sniffing my way to beauty heaven. In my younger years, I broke beauty rules with abandon: avoided sleep, smoked, drank, and wore tons of makeup (to bed!) without a care. I'm now in that precarious position of aging skin - a hormonal roller-coaster that brings three unwelcome guests: wrinkles and zits, with the odd allergic reaction. Like Ebenezer Scrooge, I'd rather stay in bed and ignore these loathsome entities, but that's not practical. My dermatologist treats more women in their thirties than teenagers and it makes sense - no one wants either one of those problems, and if you get them, you want them gone fast.
