Love it or hate it, Rick Caruso's $400 million, 15.5 acre Super-Grove opened this morning in Glendale. The open-aired shopping mecca boasts over 75 retail stores, a wide variety of eateries, and one heck of a fountain. It's the perfect place to spend an afternoon people-watching, listening to piped-in Sinatra and downing Beard Papa cream puffs, while secretly cursing Capitalism and referring to the retail monstrosity as "Genericana". more ›

The Big Daddy of Cream Puffs Comes to LA

The Big Daddy of Cream Puffs Comes to LA

Hollywood loves a good cream puff. Or at least that's what the folks at Beard Papa hope. The latest location of this international cream-pufferie opens this week at Hollywood & Highland (otherwise known to some cynics as the crossroads of "Too Much" and "Too Late"). Then, when you place your order, you can watch as they stuff your shell with their whipped cream custard. The filling is also made on the premises; it's a two hour process that gets underway about 4-6 times a day, and uses natural vanilla beans for flavoring. Our friends at Gothamist drooled over BP last year, so we're thinking perhaps there's more than fluff and filling to these little pastries. This Saturday, the Hollywood & Higland location is having their Grand Opening celebration, starting at 10 a.m. We might even be persuaded to re-introduce bread and sugar into our diet for such a special occasion. more ›
