It’s the first night of Aaron Donovan’s beginning still-life painting class at Barnsdall Art Center, an eclectic community art center on the southeast edge of Barnsdall Art Park in East Hollywood. Adult students arrive with canvases and brushes at the ready. One woman brings persimmons from her garden for the class to paint. Donovan is carefully placing the fruit on bright-colored plates as a middle-aged gentleman with a cell phone on his hip arrives. Donovan asks him if he’s a painter. more ›

The last days of summer may be rushing up behind us, but the season’s harvest still overflows in Los Feliz, thanks to the two (yes, two!) weekly farmers' markets that serve this community. One is the Los Feliz Farmers' Market, while the other is the LA Medical Center Farmers' Market, which visits Los Feliz every Wednesday from 12-6pm in the lower parking lot of Barnsdall Art Park on Hollywood Blvd. more ›

Last Saturday, as part of Pride Week, Barnsdall Park was the site of Dyke Day LA. The event started at noon and culminated with beginning of the Dyke March. Lily Burk Memorial Held Last Night at Barnsdall Park

A memorial service for 17-year-old Lily Burk, who was murdered late last month while out running errands for her mother, was held last night in Barnsdall Art Park. About 500 people gathered to remember the short life of the Los Feliz teen, according to the LA Times, who was remembered through "song, poetry and heartbreaking tributes." more ›
