A college Republican group at UC Berkeley is following in the footsteps of other campuses, including UC Irvine, and hosting a "Diversity Bake Sale." Sounds lovely, doesn't it? Except that the sale will feature goods sold at different prices depending on the consumer's race, ethnicity and gender. White men will be charged $2, Asian men $1.50, Latino men $1, Black men $0.75, and Native Americans $0.25. Women will get $0.25 off any purchase.

The money goes to Share Our Strength, the organization that works to fight childhood hunger in the U.S.
Eat & Do Good: Bake Sale for Japan This Saturday
Local efforts to raise funds for Japanese earthquake and tsunami relief have been in abundance lately, and among the opportunities in to give to a great cause is a nationwide bake sale. The Los Angeles event is being organized by Tavern Restaurant's Pastry Chef Breanne Varela, and it will feature the baked goodies made and donated by local professional and amateur bakers and treat-makers.

Up for grabs will be "a dizzying array of sweets from both professional kitchens (Spork Foods, Whisk LA whoopie pies, and Bitter Sweet Treats) and and local homes, as well as a few jars of choice homemade jams." LA's a-glut with foodbloggers, and many of them will put their fingers to work in their kitchens, not their keyboards, next Saturday to take part in the first ever Blogger Bake Sale. The event, dubbed "Eat My Blog," happens on December 5th at the WeHo location of Zeke's Smokehouse [LAist Review], and was put together by Gastronomy Blog's Cathy Danh.
