Described by many turning to Twitter to share their quake reactions here in Los Angeles as a long, rolling motion, what we felt was what preliminary reports are estimating is a 6.9 earthquake "26 km (16 miles) SSW of Guadalupe Victoria, Baja California, Mexico," according to the USGS. The Daily News reports that a local nonprofit is seeking help from Southern Californians who have a taste for adventure: "Iemanya Oceanica is organizing a shark-tagging research expedition to Baja California next month and is seeking up to 20 scuba divers/snorkelers from Southern California to help." If you go, you'll be looking for Whale Sharks, which are described as "the largest living fish species on the planet, which can "grow up to 40 feet long, weigh up to 15 tons and live up to 70 years." About that 6.9 Earthquake in the Gulf of California

Not too many local reports of people feeling the large quake in the Gulf of California one-minutes shy of 11 a.m., but it definitely shook up the water cooler talk in San Diego and other border cities and as far as Phoenix and El Paso. The 10:59 a.m. 6.9 quake struck just four minutes after a 5.8 shaker. The large quake was followed by 5.0 and 5.9 quakes within an hour. There have been no reports of damage or injuries. The large quake may have been caused by "an unidentified strike-slip style fault," according to Scienceduce Gary Robbins at the OC Register via seismologist Sue Hough at USGS in Pasadena. more ›
