Jimmie Johnson was once again the class of the field at Fontana on Sunday.

Matt Kenseth continued his perfect start to the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup season by winning the Auto Club 500 in Fontana, California tonight. Fresh off a coast-to-coast victory tour for the Daytona 500, Kenseth is the first driver since Jeff Gordon in 1997 to start a NASCAR Cup Series season with back-to-back victories. Kenseth battled for the lead with Jeff Gordon in the final laps of the race, passing Gordon's #24 car with a speedier pit stop on lap 216.

LAist scored an exclusive interview with Matt Kenseth, winner of the 2009 Daytona 500. The Daytona 500, also known as "the Great American Race," is the most-watched auto race in America and carries by far the richest purse ($1,536,388) of any NASCAR race of the year. While gearing up for this weekend's NASCAR doubleheader at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Kenseth slowed down long enough to chat with LAist.
