Audio Pioneer and Newsweek Owner Sidney Harman Dies at 92
Arts entrepreneur and philanthropist Sidney Harman died Tuesday night in Washington, D.C. of complications from leukemia. Harman was an instrumental figure in the development and advancement of high fidelity audio technologies as founder (in 1953) of harman/kardon, inc. and in 2010 rescued Newsweek from financial ruin, purchasing it from the Washington Post last August and overseeing its merger with The Daily Beast.
911 Recordings Capture Attempts to Revive Brittany Murphy
Yesterday the Los Angeles Fire Department released the audio recording of the 911 call made by Brittany Murphy's mother when she found the actress collapsed in her home last month, reports LA Now.
Listen In: Michael Jackson 911 Call Released
TMZ got their hands on the audio from the 911 call yesterday from Michael Jackson's rental home in Holmby Hills. They never identify the 50-year-old man who is not breathing as Jackson, but do say that a doctor is there present with him:
Audio: Christian Bale Going Ballistic, Parody Videos Made
First there was Ashton Kutcher's video from last week of him freaking out over construction at a neighbors house (he later apologized). Now this dramatic audio (TMZ calls it "amazing") from six months ago appears on the net. This happened after the Director of Photography stepped into the frame, ruining the scene. Careful, it's very NSFW:

LAist Interview: Sonic Boom
It’s midnight, and while I write a monotonous series of buzzes and feedback loops razes through my living room. The cats are wide-eyed and alarmed.
Tonight in Rock: Mika, Bangkok Five, Mon. Night Residencies
Sometimes Monday nights lead to tough choices. For Jax at Rock Insider, it's between The Pity Party (who we interviewed this morning) and The Henry Clay People. Luckily, both bands are playing all month. Still, there are many choices. If you like your music Folk, your drinks cheap and have never been to Joe's Great American Bar & Grill in Burbank, it's a pretty sweet place to catch music seven days a week -- tonight is Dafni.
Guide to February Rock Music Residencies
Month-long residencies are one of the best ways to catch up-and-coming bands in Los Angeles. You have at least four times to catch a band, and each time, if they are gaining popularity over each show, it will be harder to see them. Last Thursday at their final residency concert, The Airborne Toxic Event played a sold out show with another 300 fans not getting in at the door. That's how crazy residencies can be. Catch 'em while you can. Here's your February line-up:
Tonight in Rock: Hot Chip, Pity Party, Henry Clay People
Despite it being Superbowl Sunday, February residencies got off to a great start last night with Alex & Sam at Tangier. Tonight is the first night of February residencies at Spaceland, Silverlake Lounge, Crash Mansion and The Echo/Echoplex. By last Thursday, The Airborne Toxic Event had gained so much popularity from their January residency, they had to reject 300 people from the door. Case in point, catch these bands in residency early on in the month.

"The Kobe Video" released -- is it worth two bucks?
We like to keep you informed after we've started something, so here's that 24-second clip of Kobe caught on tape complaining about the Lakers. Or rather, about 10 seconds of Kobe as the cameraman pans back and forth between his friends and the Lakers star. My favorite part is the creepy music at the start. Last I checked, the guys selling this video for $1.99 hadn't gotten more than 10,000 people to buy it off...
