iPhone VS. AT&T: 'Hey, Did You Ever Get My Message?'

iPhone VS. AT&T: 'Hey, Did You Ever Get My Message?'

Written, produced and directed by Charles Scheinblum, who also stars in the short, the video portrays AT&T as a prick in a suit, crumpling written messages in lieu of delivering them to the recipient. It's a pen and paper, "Get a Mac" scenario, and it's all too familiar for AT&T patrons victims. more ›

Were You Without AT&T Service This Weekend? So Were Thousands of Others

Were You Without AT&T Service This Weekend? So Were Thousands of Others

While it's quite typical for AT&T customers to complain of missed, failed and dropped calls, this weekend's hardware failure sent L.A. area users into a grumbling frenzy. The exact number of AT&T customers affected has not been specified, but the total reaches into the thousands. more ›

Notorious AT&T Drop-Call Spots Soon to Be Dropped?

Notorious AT&T Drop-Call Spots Soon to Be Dropped?

You know the drill. Drive from Manhattan Beach to Santa Monica, AT&T drops your call. Drive anywhere in Echo Park & Silver Lake or take the train to Anaheim, AT&T drops your call. Try to text someone outside LAX, forget about it. In Hollywood? You're out of luck. Our L.A. dropped-call woes may be over as all signs point to the rumored Verizon for iPhone being far more than just a rumor, according to Mashable. more ›

MetroPCS Joins the 4G Mobile Internet Party

Last month we gave you the rundown* on when we can expect 4th-generation mobile internet speeds from the top four carriers. But we forgot about the little guy(s). MetroPCS is not-so-well known as the fifth-largest mobile provider in the U.S and today its 4G high-speed data network was lit up across L.A. (available only on the Samsung Craft 4G). MetroPCS has competitive rates and a map indicating decent coverage across L.A. But does anyone really use them? We'd love to know what you think. more ›

Sprint Finally Set to Rollout 4G Service in L.A.

Sprint Finally Set to Rollout 4G Service in L.A.

We've seen the billboards all over town: an oversized phone slathered with the words "first" and "4G." But those of us who don't accept "sometime later this year" for an answer have been left to ask: "So?" "When?" Sprint today announced plans to "officially" launch 4G WiMax mobile internet service across L.A. December 1. Sprint users have been reporting more and more 4G coverage across the metro area since the HTC EVO was released in early June. more ›

Verizon to Offer iPhone Service Next Year, Sources Say

Verizon to Offer iPhone Service Next Year, Sources Say

If true, this would please many Angelenos exasperated with AT&T service (how many Verizon veterans experience more dropped calls than ever now that they're with AT&T? Why does data not come through on the Sunset Strip?). more ›

He might not have to worry about himself, but Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa wants to make sure Angelenos don't break the law when it comes to their cellphones. Yesterday at a news conference, Villaraigosa voiced his support for the movement to make sure drivers don't send text messages while they're behind the wheel, reports the Daily News. more ›

Payphones a Costly Symbol of Yesteryear?

Payphones a Costly Symbol of Yesteryear?

Do you remember life before cellphones? Maybe you remember making plans to meet up with a friend and having to just sit and wait for them to show up since they didn't have a way to call you from the car or a tiny device in their pocket or purse. Maybe you remember the pager era, when friends would beep you and you would head off to search for a payphone and either plug in a pocketful of change or tap out a lengthy calling card number in order to retrieve your message. more ›

Did AT&T's Network Go Off the Grid Last Night?

Did AT&T's Network Go Off the Grid Last Night?

A tipster sent this missive to our inbox last night: "no ones cellphones are working on the west side. i know for a fact att and sprint are down and have been for hours now." But the West Side wasn't the only part of town feeling cut off from the world; it seems AT&T had zero to minimal phone or network service from about 7 p.m. until at least 1:00 a.m. last night elsewhere in Los Angeles--we know this because our own beloved iPhone was of no use to us from the Valley to Glendale to Dodger Stadium and back to the Valley again. Luckily, it seems to be all systems go this morning. Did your AT&T (or Sprint, as our reader suggests) network disappear last night? Anyone know why this happened? more ›

Sick of grumbling under your breath "soon...soon I'll have an iPhone...blast that Verizon two-year contract!"? Well today's your lucky day. This week, at Las Vegas' CTIA convention, AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph de la Vega has unofficially announced that a 3G iPhone will come to the hands of consumers in a matter of months. TMZ Takes Blogging to a New Low, Sponsored by AT&T

TMZ Takes Blogging to a New Low, Sponsored by AT&T

Earlier today TMZ had a live camera spying on people trying to eat at the Urth Cafe on Melrose. They almost seemed giddy about the fact that they were going to hopefully deliver the world video images of the likes of Us Weekly celebs buying, uh, coffee. When the cameras weren't being shut down by Johnny Law, all they really documented were the sweaty backs of hard-working busboys. But still, wtf, TMZ? You're in... more ›

Extra Extra: Less Fire, More Donuts!

Extra Extra: Less Fire, More Donuts!

As firefighters sought to contain the smoldering remains of California, officials are keying in on how the fires started. One of the largest fires, the Santiago fire that burned 22,000 acres was, reportedly set by an arsonist. President Bush toured parts of California and declared, "We're not going to forget you in Washington D.C." I guess he didn't visit any poor children. There's at least one good story to come out of this tragedy.... more ›

Teenager Hacks iPhone to Work with T-Mobile

One of the biggest drawbacks of the Apple iPhone is the fact that the only provider that you could use is AT&T. Not only does only one provider ensure high prices, but AT&T have allegedly worked hand-in-hand with the Bush administration to help them spy on Americans via the NSA program, therefore a wise consumer would probably balk at letting Ma Bell and Uncle Sam in on every email, website, and phone call that... more ›

iPhone: 1st Reviews, or Walt Mossberg is NOT the Reincarnation of Jim Morrison

After a good two weeks of bragging about being the first reviewers to test the God|Jesus|fuckme|iPhone, at least WSJ's Walt Mossberg and the NYT's David Pogue had the courtesy to post decent video reviews. Both reviewers did their best to avoid extreme gushing, while failing to really criticize the device. In fact, both are quick to blame AT&T's EDGE network for sucking without explaining why the iPhone does not connect to AT&T's faster networks... more ›
