At a press conference that got underway shortly after Noon today, the Joint Task Force investigating the rash of arson fires that have been set over the last four days in Los Angeles announced that the "person of interest" has in fact been arrested, but the investigation remains ongoing.

It was called "Operation Pirate Town," and the targets were gang members belonging to Rancho San Pedro,or "RSP," according to LA Now.

38th Street Gang Bust: 57 Arrested, Drugs & Weapons Seized
The LAPD, DEA, and ATF joined forces early this morning to conduct dozens of arrests of members of the 38th Street Gang gang, as part of a massive indictment against the criminal organization on federal charges, according to the Department of Justice.
800 officers arrested a total of 57 people, of which 37 are defendants named in the indictment.
Former Marines Arrested for Selling Weapons to Gang Members
Two former Marines, and three other local men, have been arrested following a lengthy investigation for allegedly selling assault rifles to known Los Angeles gang members, according to LA Now.
Half of all Guns Traced in California Come from LA County
When guns are recovered as part of criminal investigations in California, authorities trace the weapons to their point of origin. Statistics released from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives indicate that in 2009, of the 32,964 guns traced in California, half came from Los Angeles County, according to LA Now.

Feds Raid Crips, Arrest 22; Take Drugs, Guns
More than 500 federal agents and local officers raided several South L.A. locations this morning and arrested nearly two dozen members and associates of the Rolling 60's neighborhood Crips gang. This is the biggest sting yet in a two-and-a-half year joint investigation involving the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and LAPD.
