All photos by Kelly C. Gallamore for LAist. The Los Angeles Avengers kicked off this weekend with a comeback win over the New Orleans VooDoo, marking the ninth straight season we've had pro football back in the City of Angels. Last year the Avengers finished second in the American Western division and won their wild card round of the Arena Football League playoffs. This year, coach Ed Hodgkiss thinks they ... could ... go......

After taking a plea and admitting to participating in and sponsoring dogfighting on his own property, the NFL has finally convened on the matter and decided to suspend Michael Vick indefinitely without pay. In plain English this means that he is done playing football in the NFL. So what now? Maybe when he is turned loose in 12--18 months, Arena Football will get its hands on their very own Beckham! Except Beckham never tortured and......

A Word or 100+: Ooops, I missed the Tonys, malhereusement. If there's a pick tonight, other than arena football, then it's the US version of Creature Comforts on CBS at 8:00 p.m. (from the creator of Wallace and Gromit). Jordan Farmar set a new record by playing in the development league in the afternoon, then being recalled and......

Bruins 68, Jayhawks 55 - Arron Afflalo led the way with 24 points to help UCLA avenge their #2 seeding by beating #1 seed Kansas. The team shot an impressive 53% from the field and was equally impressive on defense. Both teams came in known for protecting the hoop and showed it with a combined 32 steals and 46 turnovers. UCLA is back in the final four for a second straight year and an NCAA......

Dodger 4, Orioles 2 - Zzzzzzz. Zzzzzz. Zzz ... snort ... huh? Oh. I just had the worst nightmare. I'm glad it was just a dream. Or was it? Ducks 5, Oilers 1 - One bad team deserves another. Los Angeles is still tied for last in the West, but can celebrate a commanding win over Edmonton. The Oilers have lost eight in a row and have scored just two goals in their past three......

It has been a good two seasons since we followed the LA Avengers closely so we watched anxiously and nervously as NBC News lead with an Avengers story after last night's episode of Crossing Jordan. We used to know a few players and a few folks in the Avengers organization and most of them have moved on to other teams or other parts of their lives since then and with their departures so went......
