Tonight In Rock: Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arctic Monkeys, Fanfarlo, Nurses

Tonight NY-based alternative rock trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs (LAist Review) will be headlining the Pomona Fox Theater. English alternative rockers Arctic Monkeys are poised to take on the Hollywood Palladium with local pop rockers the Like. London's own indie pop act Fanfarlo will be gracing the Troubadour with Raleigh-bred lo-fi pop outfit Love Language. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Echo to catch Portland-based indie rockers Nurses, who will be opening for none other than Seattle's own pop quartet Throw Me The Statue. One of New Zealand's finest acts the Brunettes and local singer-songwriter Devon Williams are slated to perform as well.

Week In Rock: Blink 182, Phoenix, Arctic Monkeys, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart

Parisian buzz band Phoenix (LAist Review) are poised to grace the Greek Theatre with Canadian indie rock outfit Metric and local garage rockers the Soft Pack in tow. Last Friday, I made a plan to go out to Club Underground at The Echo for my birthday, and I had all my friends meet me there. On a total stroke of luck, I realized a band I had discovered a month or so before was also playing that night before Club Underground started. So I told everyone to get there at 9 if they wanted to see a good band first.

We think Morningwood's "Nth Degree" is a catchy song and we love the lead singer Chantal's attitude. Did you see her on Letterman? Man!

We're flashing a sad peace out to their editor Carolyn Kellogg with one hand and bumping knuckles with our new head typist L.A. blogger king Tony Pierce with the other.

Although they've been playing the LA music scene for nearly two years and
released an eponymous EP, Army Navy are
probably most recognized for being featured on Fox's hit show, the
    OC.
    They also
have a strong fan base in Seattle, thanks to KEXP.
With influences ranging from British pop to Pacific Northwest post-grunge,
Army Navy strikes that enviable balance of being both instantly familiar and
unique. This particular editor thinks (or at least hopes) the band is on the
verge of breaking... so check them out locally while you can. You'll have bragging rights later.

Army Navy are: Justin Kennedy (vocals, rhythm guitar), Ben Gaffin (bass),
Louie Schultz (keyboards, lead guitar and backup vocals) and Josh Zetumer (drums).

    Upcoming shows:

  • Sunday November 6th at 3 of Clubs with Rum Diary from San Francisco
  • Monday November 7th at Silverlake Lounge with Little One and Fielding
  • Monday November 14th at Detroit Bar with The Color Turning
