Taking a Stand: Angel Stadium Workers Prepare to Strike

Taking a Stand: Angel Stadium Workers Prepare to Strike

The Angels may be in the middle of a 10-game road trip but that didn't keep a display of power away from Angel Stadium this week. In fact, there may be nobody around to turn the power back on when the team returns next Tuesday. Workers at Angel Stadium voted on Thursday to authorize a strike after seeing their wages frozen by management. more ›

T-Mobile, Angels Team Up to Cure Boredom at the Ballpark

The Angels kick off a 10-game road trip today but when the team returns in August, Angel Stadium will have some gadgets available to help fans ward off the potential boredom of nine innings of American League baseball. T-Mobile on Friday announced a partnership with the Angels to provide fans with a tablet rental program, allowing fans to watch TV, read magazines, chat with friends and hopefully not get hit in the face by a foul ball. more ›

Fox Unveils Latest Useless Screen Filler

Fox Unveils Latest Useless Screen Filler

It's hard work watching baseball games on Fox. On the one hand, each contest always seems lasts an hour too long and, on the other, the Fox announcers over-the-top Yankee gushing (though mostly Derek Jeter) makes you feel less like you're watching a baseball game and more like an episode of the Dating Game. Plus, last night's classic not withstanding, game one of the ALCS was a slow, matter of fact contest between the dominant Yankees and the suddenly hapless Angels. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Andre Does It Again - Angels are Ready

LAst Night's Action: Andre Does It Again - Angels are Ready

LA Dodgers beat Atlanta Braves 5-4. There were a lot of little subplots to last nights' Dodgers-Braves game. The Dodger lead was slowly slipping away (6 games over the idle Giants). Former Dodger Derek Lowe was making his return to Chavez Ravine with the Braves. Which Dodger team was going to show up? Would the Dodgers help Randy Wolf get a decision? Who knew WHAT to expect. In spite of all the uncertainty, one thing is for certain. If the game is on the line and Andre Ethier is at the plate, more often than not the Dodgers are gonna win. Andre hit his fourth career walk-off homer, a 3 run shot, to give the Dodgers the win over the Braves and keep the Dodgers 6 1/2 up of the Giants in the NL West. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Grudgefeud of the Century Fails to Materialize

LAst Night's Action: Grudgefeud of the Century Fails to Materialize

Brewers 4, Dodgers 1 - Fans expected some fireworks on Wednesday night, just one game after Milwaukee's Prince Charming Fielder tried to huff-n-puff-n-blow down the doors to the Dodgers clubhouse. They'll have to wait until Friday's regularly scheduled postgame show. Instead, Brewers hurler Braden Looper exacted revenge the old fashioned way -- by tossing a solid 6 and 2/3 innings. His second pitch of the evening wound up in the right field bleachers, but the Rafael Furcal leadoff homer must have been a leftover from the previous night's 17-4 scoring feast. Otherwise, it was a quiet game for Dodger bats. Jason Schmidt took the loss on just 3 2/3 innings, ending when he hit Craig Counsell with a pitch. Don't read too much into it. The bases were juiced (forcing in a run) but the pitch wasn't (71 mph). more ›

Fans React to Anaheim Angels Violence, Compare to Dodgers

After one death and a shooting this week, some fans are wondering what happened to their sweet Orange County Disneyfied Angels baseball experience. The LA Times takes a look, finding some interesting comments made on the internet: "In a ballpark that once had a no-alcohol section for families and won over youngsters with Disney promotions, fans have taken notice, erupting on message boards and on Twitter. Several threatened to stop going to games. 'Not willing to risk family safety because of gangbangers & thugs in SF, LA Dodgers, and now Anaheim Angels,' one fan wrote. Many took shots at the 'Los Angeles' in the Angels name. 'When did Angel Stadium turn into Dodger Stadium?' one person asked. 'Guess it really HAS turned into an LA team,' another wrote." more ›

Off-Duty Officer Shoots Two at Angels Game

Off-Duty Officer Shoots Two at Angels Game

More details are coming out from last night's shooting at the Angels-Colorado game. An off-duty officer from the Anaheim Police apparently shot two men after an altercation. One was shot in the head and the other in the chest. All three were sent to the hospital and the officer has been the only person released so far. TV news reports suggest that the officer identified himself as the two men were allegedly breaking into a car. When he approached, they attacked him and he used the gun in self defense. One witness who claimed she was one of the victim's sister-in-law told KTLA that the officer began the fight with the two men, one of whom is a marine. more ›

Halos Suffer from Premature Evacuation

Halos Suffer from Premature Evacuation

The Angels have been dating a mysterious figure known as World Champion off and on over the last 5 years or so. It hasn't reached the serious level yet, but they've flirted with the possibility of going all the way. There's always been competition, because quite honestly, World Champion is a slut. She's always willing to go with whoever is offering the most bang at the time. This year she's had her eye on Ray from Tampa. He pulled a Ronald Miller and went from totally geek to totally chic this season. They even went out and bought her expensive gifts, like a new center fielder and first baseman. more ›

Napoli-on Dynamite, Angels Not Dead Yet

Napoli-on Dynamite, Angels Not Dead Yet

The average labor length for a third child is about 5 hours. That's how long it took the Angels to squeeze out a win in Game 3 of the ALDS last night in Boston. It was their first postseason win against the Red Sox in 11 straight attempts. The Halos avoid the sweep and now trail in the series 2-1. more ›

Fallen Angels on the Brink of Elimination

Fallen Angels on the Brink of Elimination

It was my understanding that the team that wins a division is also supposed to be the same team that reports to work during the playoffs, not its evil and less talented twin (no offense to Minnesota). The Angels came into Friday night's game down 1-0 and in need of a win before hopping a plane out to Beantown for Sunday's possible series ending game. With the best record in the regular season behind them and $124 million on the field in red and white, a win at home was crucial. Unfortunately for Angels fans, we've witnessed the film version of a long running and critically acclaimed TV show these last two games, The Simpsons Movie of baseball, if you will. more ›

Angels Need a Little Hell Fire

Angels Need a Little Hell Fire

It’s not that the Angels lacked offense in Game 1 Wednesday night in Anaheim, but like me at the end of every high school dance, they just couldn’t score. The Halos had 9 hits to Boston’s 8. However, their traditional small ball way of playing the game is not going to work against these guys…again. Hey, that’s why they went out and bagged Texiera from the Braves so they wouldn’t find themselves down a game, played at home, after finishing the season with the best record in baseball. But that was then, and this is October. Maybe someone should tell Vladimir Guerrero. more ›

What are the Odds of a 'Freeway' World Series?

What are the Odds of a 'Freeway' World Series?

Could it actually happen? A spokesman for BetOnline.com e-mailed over saying he has calculated the odds: "With the Dodgers two wins away from a trip to the NLCS, and the Angels in a 1-0 hole... [the] odds on a possible Dodgers-Angels 'Freeway' World Series," are 7-to-1, he explained. "Not to be left out, a Cubs-White Sox 'Red Line' World Series is currently at 9-to-1." If that happens, can Mayor V and the Anaheim Mayor make a bet? If the Dodgers win, Anaheim can't use "Los Angeles" in their team name anymore. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. pfffft. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Baron's Back

LAst Night's Action: Baron's Back

As we mentioned earlier today, Los Angeles native Baron Davis is headed home and he's bringing his beard and 21 points per game with him. The former Crossroads School and UCLA standout came to a verbal agreement with the LA's other team, making the Clippers suddenly relevant and a playoff contender. Baron credits the community for his decision telling ESPN, "I'm happy with where I'm going. A big reason is because of the impact and the things that I can do going forward. I knew I could have done them here and created all kinds of good things and positive things in the community, and ultimately, me going home helps me make an impact on young kids." Elton Brand, who opted out Monday is expected to re-sign with the Clips for a hometown discount. Baron and Brand! Clipper Nation hasn't been this excited since the Red, White and Blue marched all the way into the second round of the playoffs in 2006. more ›

Hey, did you hear something about gas prices being really high? There was something on the news and a little blurb on the inter-web the other day.
