Eye Nosh: Bounty of the Season at Angeli Caffe

Evan Kleiman is well known on the local foodie scene thanks to her tasty weekly KCRW show Good Food, and her involvement in many local food endeavors and events. Of course, Kleiman is also the owner of the fabulous Angeli Caffe, where local foods, including market-fresh veggies, are celebrated with an Italian flair. One of LAist's most awkward/memorable moments in recent history was when we attended a pretty cool food event last spring, and had the chance to meet restaurateur, chef, author, and radio personality Evan Kleiman. Of course we got a little foodie star-struck and, with our mouth was full of tasty bits and bites set out for our enjoyment, we managed to sort of choke out some words of appreciation to the lady who has been an important name in LA food for a couple of decades now. But we didn't rush out to grab a table at her Angeli Caffe until one recent night, when a craving for Italian eats compelled us to pick up the phone and see if we could wrangle ourselves a very last-minute reservation.

It was our pleasure to attend yesterday's "Taste of Italy" Wine and Food tasting event that was held to premiere several Italian wines paired with samplings of food from some of LA's best eateries and in benefit of the non-profit eco-gastronomic organization Slow Food. This gave us the unique opportunity to mingle with prestigious vinters and chefs--some of whom, like Angeli Caffe and KCRW's Good Food's Evan Kleiman and the La Brea Bakery's Nancy Silverton, we'd know of and admired for quite some time.
